MS. MARVEL TV Spot And Stills Showcase Kamala Khan's Impressive Embiggening Powers In The MCU

Marvel Studios has released a fun new TV spot and stills for Ms. Marvel, showcasing Kamala Khan's overhauled powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and they're quite a bit different to embiggening).

All eyes are understandably on Obi-Wan Kenobi today, but a couple of days before that show's fourth episode hits Disney+, Ms. Marvel will premiere on the streaming platform.

In the following TV spot for the next Marvel Cinematic Universe-set adventure, we see more of young Kamala Khan in action. Her abilities are undeniably impressive, and while they certainly pay homage to the comic books, it's clear that we won't see anything fully resembling Ms. Marvel's "embiggening" powers.

Several people involved with the show, including Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and star Iman Vellani, have defended the switch up, but it's one of the biggest departures from the source material we've seen for a character in the MCU.

Still, Ms. Marvel does look pretty cool, and those social media reactions were positive enough that some alterations to the hero's abilities clearly have no bearing on the quality of the show itself. We have to give Marvel Studios the benefit of the doubt at this stage, and with so much talk of Kamala's new powers being key to the MCU's future, there has to be a good reason for the change.

Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney+ in June 8!

Best TV spot yet. Really showcased the action which was the one thing I was curious about with this show. Getting more and more excited for this one

Ms. Marvel still looks like a lot of fun. :)

I saw Top Gun: Maverick yesterday and it was great 5 Stars / 5 Stars. The new Top Gun is a lot like the first one. More story than action until the end. It's also a movie I only need one viewing.

@DoubleD

Do you think I will enjoy it even tho I haven't seen Top Gun?

I want to go to the cinema but I'm not that interested in the prequel.

Is it referencing some events of the first movie, or is it okay for me to go in blind?

@UXASIS - No, you don't need to see the first one you will still enjoy Top Gun.

My first thought on this was unkind. The girl looks unsvelte. My last thought on this was
a bit better. They must have gone for the best actress. I'll take that anyday.

@JDL - so you’re calling her fat? More and more users keep proving how weird and creepy they are. You’re a grown ass man.

@TheSuperMex - She's a different body type than the comics. Definitely not fat but not as svelte. But they cast a an actress for America Chavez less buff than her comic counterpart and far thinner than her animated version, so I mean ... who cares either way.

@ptick - I'll add, too, that Kamala's comic version is not meant to be some sort of "hot girl" body type anyway. She is long limbed and gangly and purposefully awkward. The only body type that would have been a poor casting choice would have the stereotypical "hot girl."

@TheSuperMex - My expectation for a lead was that they would play it safe and they didn't. Clear now ?

I actually much prefer the power set she has here. The "embiggening" thing always struck me as a bit silly, at least as portrayed in the comics.

If she is to be the MCU's version of Quasar, I guess I can live with it. Capt. Marvel has become their Silver Surfer.
Magus
Magus - 5/27/2022, 12:21 PM
@knomad - Totally agree. Her comic powers likely don't adapt well to live action. If she has a single Quantum Band that is actually pretty cool.
