At least three MCU shows are expected to debut on Disney+ this year, but now dates had been revealed - until now!

Though no official announcement has been made, the Disney+ listing for Secret Invasion has been updates with a premiere date of June 21, 2023.

We still don't have a detailed plot synopsis, but the accompanying description tells us that we will follow Nick Fury and Talos as they "fight against a Skrull faction who have infiltrated the Earth for years."

Disney+ show page detailing release date for Marvel's Secret Invasion.

Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn will reprise their roles as Fury and Talos, respectively, and they'll be joined by Olivia Colman, who is rumored to be playing an incarnation of Union Jack, and Emilia Clark, who may or may not be portraying Abigail Brand.

Kingsley Ben-Adir will be on villain duties as Gravik. The show will also include Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross.

Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) directed the miniseries, which was written by Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot).

We're still waiting on a full trailer, but you can check out the previously-released announcement teaser below.

@DocSpock - Emilia is *chefs kiss*, really hope she ends up as Abagail or maybe just maybe, Jessica Drew.

@FilmGuy7878 -

Her as Jessica Drew would be GRRRREAT!!!!!

I was already thinking of her in tight spandex anyway.

@DocSpock - yup, Emilia Clarke is the primary reason I will be watching this.

Still pissed that they might not be doing Union Jack properly. He's one of my personal favorite Marvel characters and he could work so well in a Special Presentation fighting off Baron Blood with his sister, Spitfire.

Other than that complaint, I'm marking my calendar for that date for sure.

@FilmGuy7878 - He’s one of your favourites so your frustration is 100% justified, but if it’s any consolation, as far as alternative takes to, having Olivia Coleman in the role is about as big of a win as you can get.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 3/27/2023, 5:26 PM
@PlusUltra - True, getting Coleman is a bright side for sure. Maybe she has a collage-age kid who then becomes a gritty, London street-level Union Jack later down the line. If that happens, Dylan Llewellyn needs to play him for sure.

That's much later than I expected. Guess we'll only get two shows (Secret Invasion & Loki) between Guardians and The Marvels instead of three.

FilmGuy7878 - 3/27/2023, 5:18 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Two shows and two movies every two years. The way it should be from now on.

@FilmGuy7878 - marvel every month wasn’t sustainable as we thought

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Yeah, quantity over quality was never the way to go.

bkmeijer1 - 3/27/2023, 5:45 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - I'm okay with three movies and three shows (one of which is animated, like What If or X-Men 97) as well.

For now though, they have a lot of shows announced. And with dates for movies locked in, there is only so much time before the end of the saga to release them.

It should be possibly if they just start releasing stuff already, but for some reason they're sitting on it and creating a traffic jam if shows at the end of the saga this way.

@bkmeijer1 - I feel like they will just stretch out the Saga. 2021-2026 always seemed too rushed. My thought is that Marvel is looking to salvage this phase and slowing releases (with any needed adjustments) is their preferred approach.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 3/27/2023, 5:51 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah I feel like the shows should be of more importance in terms of getting released than the movies. The thing is that there just too many of them.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/27/2023, 5:53 PM
@FilmGuy7878 @mountainman - they could definitely use the space another year offers if they wanna wrap things up with Secret Wars. No way they can churn out everything before May 2026 (unless they turn some planned shows into specials)
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2023, 5:54 PM
@bkmeijer1 - It just seems like the reales slowdown is inevitable. 2022 saw too much content released. Even if the shows and movies are good, there is only so much that people seem willing to invest their time in to.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/27/2023, 6:07 PM
@mountainman - yep. Think 3 movies, 3 shows and a special presentation are the absolute max.

Especially if you also consider all the Assembled episodes as well.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2023, 6:11 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I’d be ok with a Halloween and another special presentation each year. Both last year were. Halloween one can continue to set up the monster side of the universe and the others can be to introduce other characters or give us more Christmas specials. I still think the Agatha one should have been a one off vs a show and they could start introducing Ghost Rider, Mephisto, and others from that side.

@mountainman - A other big thing is the general audience isn't going to watch everything. It's gotten too bloated.

I was at a car dealership yesterday buying a car and the Salesman saw my shoes (which have Deadpool on them) and he started talking about the MCU and how he couldn't keep up with it anymore simply because of work and life. He was mainly talking about all the shows and how some feel like mandatory viewing.

I think his experience is probably par for the course with a lot of the GA.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2023, 8:38 PM
@CorndogBurglar - It’s gotten overwhelming with me too. I skipped the last two disney plus shows and only plan to see those that are appealing to me going forward. And I’m more into this stuff than the average person is.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/28/2023, 3:29 AM
@mountainman @CorndogBurglar - I wouldn't mind two specials, but that would mean a movie or show less per year.

Think 8 or more projects a year is indeed to much to keep up with. Same like walking into a comic store. I pick only a handful of comics, and don't set out to read the entire store.

There's something for everybody now, but it's starting to become a fulltime job keeping up with everything.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/28/2023, 8:25 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I know that if I can’t keep up with the volume, that the GA certainly can’t.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/28/2023, 8:43 AM
@mountainman - for sure. But that I don't think that is a problem in the end. Keeping up isn't necessary anymore (although it sure is nice).

I tapped out of keeping up with the Arrowverse long ago, but I still watch Superman & Lois. I still enjoy it nonetheless.

I'm not excited, but I'm looking forward to this. I want everything I watch to always please me... as in I wish nothing to fail.

...well that's not true, I didn't want that solo Gambit movie with Channing. Thank God.

But I want Marvel to be top teir again. I'm not "picking" on Marvel, I'm just not excited for anything, except Cap 4 I'm more hopeful for.

But nothing else really has me hyped at any level. But that leaves me to be impressed.

@TheVandalore - A very fair position to take. And yeah, I have to be careful with my hype now. I have to admit Marvel Studios has a little bit of trust to earn back. I'm optimistic they can do it tho.

@TheVandalore - Just Cap 4? What about Deadpool 3? or Fantastic Four?
