Marvel Studios brought a lot of exciting announcement to San Diego Comic-Con this past Saturday, but updates were scarce on several upcoming projects, including Secret Invasion.
We obviously have some idea of what to expect from the Disney+ show thanks to the Marvel Comics event series of the same name, but this adaptation will almost certainly make a few significant changes to the source material. We do know that Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn will reprise their roles as Nick Fury and Talos, respectively, and we may now have some very interesting info on Olivia Colman's character.
According to The Illuminerdi, the Academy Award-winner is actually playing a version of Union Jack!
Three different characters have held the mantle of Union Jack in the comics: James Montgomery Falsworth, his son Brian Falsworth, and Joseph Chapman. Colman is believed to be playing "Falsworth," but whether she turns out to be a gender-swapped take on any of those established heroes or a brand new character remains to be seen.
Secret Invasion will also star Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, and Cobie Smulders. Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) directed the miniseries, which was written by Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot).
No official premiere date has been set, but the show is scheduled to premiere at some point next year.
