SECRET INVASION Season Finale Has Dropped To A Dismal 13% On Rotten Tomatoes

Oof! The season finale of Secret Invasion hit Disney+ today, and even fans of the show were left disappointed by the rushed conclusion. Now, the episode has dipped to 13% on Rotten Tomatoes...

Secret Invasion concluded its first season today, and the episode, "Home," has received a decidedly mixed (it's probably more accurate to say outright negative) response.

The series has now become Marvel's Studios' lowest-rated Disney+ show on Rotten Tomatoes with 56%, but the individual episode rating for the finale is a lot lower with just 13%.

Was it really that bad?

Secret Invasion featured a cast of superb actors and some riveting moments, but a common complaint seems to be that it simply failed to explore its intriguing premise to its full potential, and the short episode run-times never really allowed for characters and subplots to be fleshed out.

This was particularly true of the finale, which felt very rushed, and culminated in a CGI slugfest the previous episodes had avoided.

Some did feel that the show was "boring" and lacking in excitement, but was this really the best way to inject a bit of action into the proceedings? Be sure to share your thoughts on the episode and the series overall in the comments.

Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity."

The series stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

Ali Selim directs and executive-produces, along with fellow executive producers Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Ali Selim, Kyle Bradstreet and Brian Tucker. Kyle Bradstreet is also the head writer, and Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein serve as co-executive producers.

@RegularPoochie - Their need to gain subscribers has made them green light projects that need more time at the drawing board.

@Mrtoke - For the most part? That's just not true. This one was subpar. But MOST of the shows have been really well received.

@UrbanTheEmcee - the show wasn't perfect nor was it as horrible as it is being overblown hated on online. i would have preferred the actual super skrull have been the main villain with the FF powers which could have been an awesome mystery on how he got them. we already know that the FF wont be an origin story so they could very well already exist and under the radar. i would have kept all the fury personal moments cause those were perfect and propelled his character arc forward. the show just had a phase 4 typical underwhelming villain problem. fury is popular and super heroic enough to be classified as a superhero if only he had a well known villain to fight it could have been epic. but overall i still had fun

It was bad. It had a couple good performances (Olivia Colman comes to mind), but everything else was just mediocre. And it was a waste of Ben Mendelsohn’s and Cobie Smulders’ characters.

@santoanderson - I don't believe Sonya would have let the Skrull do that to her, she would have judo chopped its neck lol

@santoanderson - I gave the show a chance...but it's another bad to average at best Marvel product that has been the trend for a number of years now.Sam Jackson(highly overrated actor)showed up to get a check and nothing more...the lady that played his wife was so....bad!!!!! Clarke was meh...Mendelsohn and Ben-Adir were okay.

Is it time for MCU to hit the absolute rest button.

Transport Tom Holland and Ryan Reynolds into a brand new Universe full of Fantastic 4, X-Men and brand new/younger versions of all of the original Avengers?
TheIronDuck
TheIronDuck - 7/26/2023, 6:53 PM
@IronGenesis - that will basically be the outcome of secret Wars only not sloppy and unintentional like The flash. Unless of course they submit to pressure and cull half the slate. Then Secret Wars will certainly suck and Marvel will look no different than DC, Transformers, The FOX-Men and every other franchise that failed to stick to a roadmap.
MrDandy
MrDandy - 7/26/2023, 6:54 PM
@IronGenesis - this is likely the plan with the end of secret Wars. It would allow them to keep the actors who want to renew their contracts but otherwise serve as a reset so they can also bring back some of their most popular characters (Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther).

@TheIronDuck - unfortunately the MCU had been less than stellar for a while now. Even looking at Phase 1 and parts of Phase 2, has poor installments as well.

Disney+ giving them confidence to allow quantity over quality is a huge mistake.
TheIronDuck
TheIronDuck - 7/26/2023, 7:43 PM
@marvel72 - I'm a big fan of Hercules, the Black Knight, The Young Avengers, Wonderman, The Thunderbolts, The Hood, The Salem Seven, The Celestials, Galactus, and Deadpool so unless all those turn out Like M.O.D.O.K, Taskmaster, and The God Butcher then I think I'll Survive.
ModHaterSLADE
ModHaterSLADE - 7/26/2023, 6:38 PM
Yeah, for a standalone Fury story this would've been decent, but for an adaptation of an epic storyline like Secret Invasion they dropped the ball. Bad enough the final episode felt completely rushed.
Thing94
Thing94 - 7/26/2023, 6:39 PM
Haha yeah Marvel! We're going back to the Fantastic Four 1994 and Captain America 1990 days!
supermanrex
supermanrex - 7/27/2023, 9:33 AM
@Thing94 - not even close dude. phase 4 was definitely corporately mandated rushed under chipek. now all the product has to come out before we get to the product that will be from the slow down and quality return era. while all of phase 4 was not as bad as the internet would make you think it definitely had some WB style ceo meddling going on.

Spike101 - 7/26/2023, 6:40 PM
Can’t see the problem really. I enjoyed it and definitely the best D+ show since WandaVision and Werewolf by Night. Can’t help thinking they should have ended it with a tease to the Fantastic Four rather than the spaceship scene, could easily have just had Fury calling someone who doesn’t answer and you got to see the phone ringing in a lab with something linked to Reed for example.
