In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Everett Ross was arrested by CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (who, oddly, was also his ex-wife) for daring to help Shuri.
Okoye freed him, making Ross a wanted fugitive. Secret Invasion strongly hinted he had started working for Nick Fury and Maria Hill, though we'd soon learn that a shape-shifting Skrull had taken his place. Now, his fate and MCU future are very much a mystery to us.
It seems safe to assume Ross is among the many humans being kept in stasis by Gravik and we're anticipating seeing Martin Freeman make another cameo appearance in tomorrow's season finale.
However, during a recent interview with Collider, the actor appeared to cast doubt on whether we'll actually see more of Ross beyond Secret Invasion.
"No. I never think I've got a future in the MCU," Freeman responded when asked whether he's lined up his next MCU appearance. "I always assume I haven't, which is the safest M.O. I think it's the safest thing, given that I'm not one of the A-team in the MCU. I'm definitely on the subs bench."
"I'm a good little substitute. I can come on when needed, for about five minutes at the end of the game. I'm not assuming anything, that I have a future in the MCU. But whenever it happens, it's a lovely bonus."
We'd guess that Ross will appear down the line, though like Freeman, we have no idea when or where that might happen.
The actor recently made it clear he wasn't playing this character as a Skrull in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, suggesting the change took place sometime between the events of that movie and Secret Invasion.
As noted, the Secret Invasion finale hits Disney+ tomorrow. Be sure to check back here then for our breakdown of everything that happens!
