Following his return as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, we'll next see Charlie Cox's Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The latest trailer for the Disney+ series confirmed the Man Without Fear will suit up, albeit in a red and yellow costume paying homage to his earliest comic book adventures.
Talking to Collider, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Head Writer Jessica Gao admitted there was initially a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether they could even use Daredevil.
"I don't think we ever, in a million years, thought that we would be allowed to use them, because we didn't know what the status was of the character," she explains. "And then, I can't remember how, we got wind that he was coming back and that it was Charlie Cox, and we were like, 'Wait, does that I mean we can use him? Are we allowed? And when they told us 'Yeah,' I mean, we couldn't believe it, we thought we were being pranked."
"We just kept writing him in, and we kept rolling with the story just thinking like, 'Okay, any moment now they're going to tell us we can't use them. They made a mistake. They actually don't have the rights.' But it just kept [becoming] more and more real. And it was so hard to keep that secret!"
In a separate interview with ComicBook.com, Gao elaborated on the dynamic between She-Hulk and Daredevil, explaining what the two heroes have in common. "Well obviously, what Jen has in common with Matt Murdock is that they're both lawyers but also, uniquely, they're both lawyers who happen to be a superheroes, so they have that in common."
The site also shared comments from Jennifer Walters herself, Tatiana Maslany, in which she said, "We're best friends. Besties!" Could She-Hulk and Daredevil be more than friends? We know this series will explore Jen's love life, and it might be fun to delve into their dynamic as lawyers, superheroes, and lovers.
How much of a role 'ol Hornhead will play in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law remains to be seen, but we know Marvel Studios has big plans for the character beyond this series. Cox will also reprise the role in Echo before appearing in his own 18-part series, Daredevil: Born Again, in 2024.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney+ on August 17.
