THE GIFTED: The Stepford Cuckoos Are Coming In These New Photos From Season 1, Episode 10: "eXploited"

After introducing Esmé last week, it looks like we'll be getting to know her a lot better in the next two episodes. FOX has released thirteen new promotional stills from the fall finale. Come take a look!

Well, things just got very interesting.

Last week's episode of The Gifted introduced Esmé (Skyler Samuels), a mysterious new telepath that many familiar with Grant Morrison & Ethan Van Sciver's New X-Men run immediately presumed was one of the five Stepford Cuckoos. Now, while the episode didn't indicate whether or not this was the route the show planned on taking, it looks like this new batch of photos have essentially confirmed that she is indeed one of Emma Frost's cloned daughters.

FOX has released five additional photos from the next episode as well as eight stills from the following week's fall finale and we get to see plenty of Esmé on the rampage, including one shot of her with a mysterious blonde, who, unfortunately has her back to the camera, but seems to be sporting prison garb, which means she's more likely than not one of her sisters that was presumably captured by Sentinel Services.

This show is getting way deeper into X-men lore than what I was expecting
I love that🤣🤣

Watched Village of the Damned the other day (from the book the Midwich Cuckoos, and subsequently Stepford Cuckoos is based) and it's actually a much more interesting concept than I thought it would be.

(Buckle up for some Morrison bashing), but what the hell was even the point of these characters in his run? Just a wink to a movie/book he liked? Haven't read X-Men comics in a while, but these characters just never seemed like they worked as anything more than a gimmick. (Like a lot of the mutants created post-80's, actually.)

@Spock0Clock - i think originally they in the comics they were just supposed to be students at Xaviers and just kind of evolved from there

The show is pretty standard.
It's not great and it's not terrible.
I guess I'd describe it as serviceable.

It adds nothing new to the genre. Definitely not as unique or interesting as Legion.
Legion took the vilified mutants notion to new and twisted areas and with a lot of visual style and psychological flare.

This show about mutants on the run and hiding from the law.
That's about it. That's all it offers.

How long can they stretch that out?

The problem with hiring one actress to play multiple identical sisters is that if they ever want to show the other sisters, the filming for it can be long and tedious, with a lot of obviously cheap tactics used to show one in frame but not the other. I think it would have been in their best interest to find at least twins so it would be easier than potentially having once actress play up to five roles (although more than likely less with the show finding a way to not show them being probable)

@MikeyL - To be fair Orphan Black did this all quite well, like on a conservative budget they were able to have 4 sisters dancing together

I just wonder if they've got the right actress that can show that many personalities believably

@Hawknaba - very true, but as they may not be main characters, you have to wonder whether they will bother working hard to make it look believable and such. The personalities aren’t too hard as only recently have they started to have distinct personalities, while Esme and Sophie were the odd ones out by being more developed by their other sisters

@MikeyL - Oh fair then my guess is that we wont see the stepford's for that long and if they are all in it for the long haul they'll just have them rarely sharing a scene, which is easy since they can just be psychic linked rather than face to face contact

Been loving this show, interesting reference to Fenris.
