X-MEN Drama Nears Pilot Order At Fox; Will Revolve Around Parents And Their Mutant Children
The X-Men TV series from Burn Notice's Matt Nix is getting closer to becoming a reality, & you can find an update on that along with some fresh plot details about the family drama right here.
Legion is right around the corner, and while The Hellfire Club never happened, another mutant led series is nearing a pilot order at Fox. Written by Matt Nix (Burn Notice), Deadline reports that Fox, 20th Century Fox TV, and Marvel TV have responded well to his script, and a pilot pickup is expected shortly.
In a strong show of faith, "exploratory casting" is said to be taking place, and while specific character details are being kept under wraps, the trade reveals that it "focuses on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive." Yawn?
That may sound a little harsh, but Fox's family dramas tend to be pretty generic and this doesn't really sound very X-Men. In fact, if they weren't referred to as mutants, this could just be a standard sci-fi drama, especially as the plot bears a striking resemblance to so many other movies and TV shows.
If we're lucky, the family will be characters we know from the comic books and the "underground network of mutants" will be something along the lines of the Morlocks. We'll just have to wait and see.
