The episode opens with Ultron back inside his attic space within the mindscape. He's regained his amenities, and we get to see a news report covering a recent murder committed by someone known as the Butcherbird killer, who leaves wings etched into the dead bodies of their victims.

Then, we get the first appearance of Jocasta, who's wearing a hood as she launches an attack on an unknown individual.

Back in the real world, Tommy is still driving Vision to safety and asks him how he can help him, but Vision tells him the only people who could fix him are Dr. Bruce Banner and Tony Stark, both of whom are gone.

Inside Vision, his core is rapidly overheating. E.D.I.T.H. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. are working to stabilize him from within, but everyone is on the brink potential destruction.

Detecting the scent of sulfuric acid nearby, Vision instructs Tommy to pull the car over. Vision uses the sulfuric acid to seal his bullet wound before passing out. The improvised bandaid works, allowing Vision's core to stabilize internally, which saves E.D.I.T.H., F.R.I.D.A.Y., D.U.M.E., and U from deletion.

Elsewhere, Paladin is also recovering from the battle. We learn that he's had past encounters with Punisher, Werewolf by Night, and Daredevil, but survived to tell the tale. Though injured, Paladin knows he also wounded Vision. Working with the Handler, he deploys tracking drones programmed to lock onto Vision's unique blood signature.

Tommy attempts to connect with Vision, asking how he can truly be his father, but Vision is unsure where to begin. F.R.I.D.A.Y. interrupts to warn them that one of Paladin's tracking drones is approaching. Vision begins glitching, causing growing frustration for Tommy.

The duo find shelter at a hotel. Vision's condition causes him to emit electromagnetic energy that interferes with nearby electronics, including setting off a nearby ATM. They take some cash and retrest to their room. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Inside the mindscape, Vision discusses what to do with Ultron, while in the hotel, Tommy looks at a poster of a swimming pool, triggering a sudden memory of an event in a pool that may explain what happened to him.

F.R.I.D.A.Y. works to rewrite code to assist Vision's recovery. She reflects on her operational history, remembering the events of Infinity War and being present when Tony Stark died. She continues to carry guilt over her inability to save him.

While Vision confers with E.D.I.T.H., Tommy watches television in the room. Vision approaches Tommy to offer comfort, though Tommy insists he is fine. Tommy mentions an affinity for older television shows, prompting Vision to share that his mother Wanda also loved classic television.

Vision references a book titled The Snap, which included the story of Wanda Maximoff and The Vision. Vision explains what occurred with Wanda in Westview and why the Hex collapsed. He suggests to Thomas that he may have fabricated his memories because he longed for a family and simply knew the details from reading the book.

Inside the mindscape, Ultron insults Vision by calling him a wanker. Vision runs internal simulations to figure out how to tell Tommy the truth without driving him away again, but can't figure it out. Returning to reality, Vision decides to holds back an immediate answer, leading Tommy to walk out of the room.

Within the mindscape, F.R.I.D.A.Y. tells Ultron that most of Tony Stark's AI creations were modeled after real people: F.R.I.D.A.Y. after Allison Hogan, E.D.I.T.H. after Edith Marks, and J.A.R.V.I.S. after the original Edwin Jarvis. She notes that Ultron is a complete original avatar.

At a hotel vending machine, Tommy attempts to get something and inadvertently phases his hand through the glass, breaking it. His powers are materializing, but he clearly still lacks control.

Tommy returns to the room and shows Vision the fresh wound on his hand. Vision tries to bond with him over boxing. Vision tells him that while he does not fear death, he fears never truly understanding his purpose.

Tommy details his backstory to Vision, recounting how he was held underwater and drowning when he felt his spirit leave his body as something else filled the space. His entire body vibrated, the water began to boil, and he began moving at incredible speeds. Hearing this, Vision realizes Tommy has enhanced abilities.

We see a drone arrive outside the hotel. Vision charges up for a fight. But, it's a fakout, and Paladin is actually at a separate location where he discovers a dead body. Initially suspecting Vision, Paladin is ambushed by Jocasta.

Jocasta attacks Paladin and demands to know who hired him. Back at the hotel, Vision experiences a wave of emotions while F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. continue working to fix his internal systems.

Jocasta reads Paladin's mind, but finds he has been trained to hide his thoughts. Digging deeper into his psyche, she tells him he is not the real Paladin.

A flashback to Paladin's childhood reveals he grew up with an abusive father who was eventually shot and killed by an older mercenary named Paladin. He was subsequently raised by that mercenary, meaning he is not a Paladin by bloodline. Jocasta asserts that he is not a true Paladin and simply wants to feel real. One of Paladin's drones attacks Jocasta, but she destroys it, allowing Paladin to escape during the chaos.

At the hotel, Vision’s systems suffer a severe collapse, leaving him on the brink of death. F.R.I.D.A.Y. informs him that his system must be completely powered down and restarted, requiring a massive power surge to initiate the reboot.

Vision asks Tommy to generate the necessary surge using his speed. He gives Tommy a pep talk, affirming to him that he is indeed Tommy Maximoff.

As F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. prepare to flip the power switch, Vision reflects on his life, aware that this reboot could be his end. They turn Vision off.

Tommy enters the hotel pool with Vision. After a moment of struggle, Tommy channels his speed to generate enough electrical energy to jumpstart Vision's systems, successfully waking him up. At that moment, Jocasta senses that Vision is alive.

Inside the mindscape, F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. celebrate the successful reboot alongside D.U.M.E. and U. In the real world, Tommy and Vision share their first hug, and Vision seems hopeful about the future.

A battered Paladin returns to his operational base. The Client contacts him directly and fires him, officially terminating his contract despite Paladin's pleas to stay on the job.

Inside the mindscape, Vision, E.D.I.T.H., F.R.I.D.A.Y., D.U.M.E., and U hold a memorial service for J.A.R.V.I.S. D.U.M.E. delivers a memorable eulogy, Vision says a final goodbye to his older brother, and U begins to sing.

Ultron joins the group, offering advice to Vision while remarking that Vision still does not understand love.

Suddenly, the lights in Vision’s mindscape turn off and an alarm blares, signaling a security breach. Someone else has breached Vision's neural network.

A television screen inside the mindscape turns on, displaying a dark image of birds, frightening everyone present. D.U.M.E. and U are taken over, while F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. react with fear.

Vision's systems are hacked, and the episode concludes with a voice greeting him: "Hello Vision."

In our review, we said, "VisionQuest is extraordinary—a brilliantly written and masterfully acted exploration of love, loss, family, grief, and change. It shows us what it means to feel, what it means to be human, and serves as an outstanding thematic capstone to this Wanda and Vision trilogy. Existing on its own terms—unburdened by its past in WandaVision or the franchise’s upcoming December showdown, Avengers: Doomsday—the series is about Vision and Vision alone, showcasing what makes this core Avenger one of the greatest to ever do it."

Marvel Television’s “VisionQuest,” an all-new original series coming exclusively to Disney+ October 14, concludes the epic trilogy that began with 2021’s groundbreaking, award-winning “WandaVision” and 2024’s acclaimed “Agatha All Along.” Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
