Episode four begins back in hotel room, where the (hacked) Vision and Tommy watch a news report covering the recent murders committed by the Butcherbird killer.
Meanwhile, inside the mindscape, Vision remains trapped under Jocasta’s hijacking, his physical body levitating in the room. E.D.I.T.H., Ultron, and F.R.I.D.A.Y. remain unaffected by the intrusion. Vision confronts Jocasta in the digital space. Jocasta admits she does not know who she is, and Vision asks what she wants.
Ultron instructs E.D.I.T.H. to sever the connection to free Vision. Jocasta warns Vision to leave her alone so she won't hurt him, but E.D.I.T.H. executes a CTRL+ALT+DEL command, freeing Vision before he can see Jocasta's face. Back in control of his body, Vision recognizes that the hijacker is a synthetic entity and poses a real threat.
Within the mindscape, E.D.I.T.H. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. speculate that S.W.O.R.D. may have created another synthetic after Vision went rogue, a theory Ultron mocks. Vision struggles to understand Paladin's connection to the situation, prompting Ultron to suggest following the Butcherbird killings. Ultron notes the details of the murders, pointing out that the synthetic entity and the killer are one and the same. Vision deduces that Jocasta is hunting specific targets, meaning they must identify her next potential victim. Ultron decides to assist, while Vision notes his belief that Jocasta is in pain.
Vision brings Tommy up to speed on the situation. It is the anniversary of the Sokovia event, and Tommy mentions how Sokovian refugees still harbor hatred for Ultron. Ultron responds from inside the mindscape, claiming he is misunderstood. Tommy pushes for a deeper connection, asking for complete honesty regarding who Vision has been talking to when no one else is around. Vision reveals that he hosts other AIs within his neural network, listing J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., D.U.M.E., and U, but deliberately omits Ultron. Ultron finds the omission amusing. Vision suggests that Tommy might be safer on his own, but Tommy insists on helping in the physical world.
F.R.I.D.A.Y. briefs Vision on the murder investigations, noting little progress due to heavy security protocols blocking access to the files. Vision and Ultron hack into Interpol, opting to blend in despite Ultron's suggestion to simply kill everyone. To gain access, they face a CAPTCHA security test to prove they are not bots. Vision selects 3 while Ultron suggests 5; Vision's answer is correct.
E.D.I.T.H. identifies two of the Butcherbird victims as Richard Gaines and Rebecca Edwards, though the third victim's identity remains withheld. With assistance from D.U.M.E. and U, they deduce that this group created the first stable synthetic consciousness, serving as the prototype for Tony Stark's AI projects. They note that another key figure, Dr. Jo Carrington, died in 2008 of natural causes. The team realizes two more targets remain: one who is already dead, and one who is currently targeted.
Inside the mindscape, Ultron is seemingly learning about fatherhood by watching television. Vision and Ultron attempt to bypass the encryption on the restricted Interpol files. Their first and second attempts fail, but they ultimately crack the password.
The decrypted files reveal that Simon Moorehouse was the third victim, and the transhumanist Katerina Wells is the next target. E.D.I.T.H. breaks down the evidence from the crime scenes: the first victim was missing one liter of blood taken via needlepoint; the second victim suffered microthermal heat scarring and had their fingerprints removed; the third victim was missing an eye. Vision realizes the killer is collecting specific biomarkers—fingerprints, DNA, and retinal geography—to unlock something.
Learning that Katerina Wells is sponsoring a gala that evening, Vision decides they must infiltrate the event, realizing Tommy can help. Tommy contacts Lisa for assistance, filling her in on the situation before she meets up with Vision. Upon meeting her, Vision accidentally reveals that Tommy's pheromone levels spiked by 47% upon her arrival, embarrassing his son for the first time.
Dressed up for the gala, the group heads to the venue. Vision and Tommy create a distraction involving speaking fluent Italian, while Lisa successfully lifts admission invitations from three unsuspecting guests. During the entry, there's a reference to a Coat of Arms - possibly a hint at Lisa's future?
Back in the mindscape, Ultron and E.D.I.T.H. watch an interview with Katerina Wells on television. They note that Stark used Katerina's AI matrix as the foundation for his own AI creations.
E.D.I.T.H. explains to Ultron how Tony modeled his AIs after real people: J.A.R.V.I.S. after Edwin Jarvis, the Stark family butler; F.R.I.D.A.Y. after Allison Hogan, Howard's "gal Friday" who managed his office and helped raise Tony; and E.D.I.T.H. after test pilot Edith Marks, Howard's crash test dummy who lived a long, brave life after her husband died young.
E.D.I.T.H. expresses confusion over why those traits were passed down to her. When she asks Ultron why he selected his human avatar, mentioning he was originally conceived in Avengers Tower, Ultron admits he does not know why he chose it, noting that you get to be the next version of who you are, but stating that he simply is who he is. Media broadcasts covering Remembrance Day for Sokovia continue in the background.
At the gala, Vision instructs Tommy to run if the killer synthetic appears. Lisa urges Tommy to be careful and warns him not to fully trust Vision. After Tommy responds with harsh words, the two split up to search the venue.
Inside, an exhibition features displays of both Ultron and Vision. Looking at the display, Vision and Tommy discuss the evolution of synthetics. Ultron remarks internally that Vision is naive. Tommy later finds Vision and admits that he screwed up with Lisa. Vision shares something Wanda once told him about saying "sorry." During the conversation, Vision refers to himself directly as "me" rather than "the old me," a shift Tommy immediately notices and points out.
Katerina Wells arrives surrounded by heavy security. She presents a display featuring a model of J.I.M., the first synthetic man and original AI. Vision notes that while miraculous, J.I.M. was flawed, dying because he could not process his consciousness and emotions. Vision adds that the Mind Stone and his supporting AI network prevented him from suffering the same fate. Tommy adds that having a family helped Vision as well.
In the mindscape, E.D.I.T.H. realizes their calculations are missing a key detail. Meanwhile, Tommy questions Vision's earlier statement about his internal neural network, noting that Vision previously mentioned four AIs, but later said five. Vision claims he simply misspoke.
During her presentation, Katerina speaks about the first AI consciousness they created and brings up Sokovia. When asked if she feels guilt or responsibility for what happened, she admits she does, stating that while she cannot undo the past, she hopes to make it right, remarking that there is a Vision for every Ultron.
Jocasta arrives at the gala covertly. At the same time, Tommy puts the pieces together and realizes that the unmentioned fifth AI Vision has been speaking to is Ultron. Vision confirms it. Disgusted by the lie, Tommy calls Vision out on his behavior and walks away.
Katerina addresses the room, asking for forgiveness for her past mistakes. Jocasta interrupts her publicly, mocking the word "mistakes" before confronting Katerina directly. Revealing her synthetic nature, Jocasta blasts Vision through a window.
Recognizing her, Katerina tries to apologize, claiming she has changed and is trying to build a better world to bring "peace in our time." E.D.I.T.H. realizes that Jocasta's matrix is based on Dr. Jo Carrington.
Jocasta demands Katerina's face. Vision re-enters the room to intervene, telling Jocasta that he knows more about death than she realizes. As Jocasta moves to kill Katerina, time appears to slow down, as Tommy uses his super-speed to pull Katerina to safety.
Vision engages Jocasta in battle, threatening to tear her apart if she touches Tommy. As they fight, Vision begins glitching. E.D.I.T.H. notes that Jocasta is fighting with nothing left to lose, because she has already lost everything.
Ultron advises Vision to remind Jocasta of who she used to be. Vision invokes the identity of Dr. Jo Carrington, causing a quick flash of her original human avatar. However, Jocasta rejects the comparison, declaring that she was not merely based on Jo Carrington—she is Jo Carrington, revealing that Jo's consciousness was directly turned into Jocasta.
With Vision struggling to breakthrough, Ultron gives him a pep talk and asks for "the wheel," requesting total control over Vision's physical body. After minimal deliberation, Vision agrees and relinquishes control to Ultron.
Taking over Vision's body, Ultron recites: "I had strings, but now I'm free. There are no strings on me." Sensing the sudden shift in her opponent, Jocasta realizes something fundamental has changed. The Ultron-possessed Vision greets her warmly. He then intentionally baits Jocasta into attacking Katerina, resulting in Katerina being completely vaporized.
Inside the mindscape, Ultron locks Vision, F.R.I.D.A.Y., and E.D.I.T.H. out of the system controls. Vision realizes the full extent of Ultron's betrayal. Jocasta declares that the matter is not over before flying away from the scene.
Tommy confronts the Ultron-controlled Vision. Expressing a desire to speak with Tommy, Ultron-Vision leaves the destroyed gala with him.

In our review, we said, "VisionQuest is extraordinary—a brilliantly written and masterfully acted exploration of love, loss, family, grief, and change. It shows us what it means to feel, what it means to be human, and serves as an outstanding thematic capstone to this Wanda and Vision trilogy. Existing on its own terms—unburdened by its past in WandaVision or the franchise’s upcoming December showdown, Avengers: Doomsday—the series is about Vision and Vision alone, showcasing what makes this core Avenger one of the greatest to ever do it."
Marvel Television’s “VisionQuest,” an all-new original series coming exclusively to Disney+ October 14, concludes the epic trilogy that began with 2021’s groundbreaking, award-winning “WandaVision” and 2024’s acclaimed “Agatha All Along.” Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding.
