VisionQuest Episode 6 Featured A Cameo From The Watcher — And It Teases The Importance Of The Client

The Watcher has appeared in VisionQuest, with Marvel confirming his surprise cameo. However, why is he observing The Client, and what could that mystery villain's identity mean for the wider MCU?

During the sixth episode of VisionQuest, the camera focuses on a bank of TV screens which the mysterious Client uses to communicate with Raza, Vision, and Paladin.

However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed that, to the right of them, The Watcher can be seen observing events through a shadowy doorway. The What If...? character's presence in the Disney+ series has since been confirmed by Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum and VisionQuest showrunner Terry Matalas, as you can see below.

The Watcher, played by Jeffrey Wright, only appears during particularly big moments, such as Vanessa Fisk's death in Daredevil: Born Again and moments before the mutant massacre on Genosha in X-Men '97. So, why was he present to hear The Client speak?

Well, we have to assume that the mystery antagonist's identity is going to be a huge reveal somewhere in the remaining two episodes of VisionQuest. Whether he's J.I.M., the Hex Vision, Ultron, or any of the characters theorised to be behind that voice, their true identity will seemingly have a major impact on both this series and the wider MCU.

We'll have to wait and see for now, but VisionQuest has definitely dropped some compelling clues in recent weeks. One thing we do know is that it's not Mephisto, a character who many believed would debut in WandaVision but didn't show up until Ironheart.

In our full season review, we concluded, "Paul Bettany and James Spader are masterful in VisionQuest, a staggering achievement by Marvel Studios and Terry Matalas that understands its characters, does right by them, and delivers one of the best MCU stories ever told."

In VisionQuest, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.

His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnated. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.

VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire and James D'Arcy.

Four episodes of VisionQuest are now streaming on Disney+.

I just finished the 3rd episode and I think I lost interest. There were too many stupid things happening that I just don't think I want to continue watching this.

@FireGunn - I only liked it for the violent Vision scenes, Paladin was cool, and I love James Spader. But episode 5,6 really gets awful, it's a fanfiction come to life it's so cringe...

@Amaru - I didn't use the word hate. What's with the insult? I lost interest in a show so you insult me?

Oooh, I never thought of Hex Vision which makes sense given what happened to Tommy and Billy. Something tells me that's not it but it's an interesting idea either way.

Hex vision would be kinda cool but I doubt it. I didn’t catch the watcher cameo. I think I remember seeing critics say the last two episodes are pretty bonkers, so hopefully it means big things

@MyCoolYoung - I didn’t catch it either…

Makes me even more curious for the last 2 episodes which won’t be released together as a reminder since both are apparently an hour or so long.

Interesting catch. I'm digging this show. I hope it finishes with a bang.

Ultron needs to show up in Secret Wars.

See I watched this with the same cautious optimism that should be had with ALL comic book media and I thought this show was pretty solid.

I havent had account with this site for very long but I have been visiting this site since 2010. What I have learned is the majority of people on here are just programmed to hate everything, blinded by nostalgia and unable to accept anything new.
At this point whenever I watch a comic book movie I come on the comments JUST to see how its going to be hated. THAT is what is ruining the genre, people spoiled with variety. Vision Quest is solid, ok maybe not a 10/10 more like a 7 or 8 but damn, haters will hate no matter what

@CanonVsReason - People reacting to things they don't like is ruining the genre? - I think not.

I'd say what's ruining the genre is too many appalling movies and TV shows.

Enjoying it on the whole with a couple of issues, one of which was how dialogue heavy it is - its snappy and intersting for the most part but ep 6 just went OTT

The Client is. . . Squirrel Girl. . .

Interesting , I honestly hope they continue to do this bit with The Watcher post SW aswell since it’s fun…

Maybe “The Client’s” identity turns out to have an impact on the wider MCU or the character of Vision himself but it could also just be Uatu himself being curious and being like “ damn , this is a good show” lol.

My theory is that The Client is J.I.M who has been a ghost in the machine since his physical form succumbed to his emotions that’s been wanting a body and choose now to act but we’ll see.

Anyway , VisionQuest has been quite good thus far so can’t wait for the final 2 episodes!!.

The moment Terry Matalas stopped writing the episodes I lost interest. I'm still watching but just like almost every Marvel show the premise is good, it starts out nice, then nothing happens and it ends..

Also why the [frick] did they cast Cunk in this show and gave her ZERO FUNNY LINES. Typical baldy casting people just to cast them..

Also Peacemaker, The Penguin, and Lanterns are wayyy better than this show. This is like mid ass Hawkeye.

Terry is talented but you can only do so much when every show and movie is decided by a [frick]ing committee of talentless producers

@bobevanz - Also Peacemaker, The Penguin, and Lanterns are wayyy better than this show.
The Penguin is from MATT REEVES universe & NOT Gunns. Also Peacemaker sucked balls & lost over 70% of viewership by the 2nd episode before getting CANCELED😂 & Lanterns has everyone who ever written a Green Lantern comic or did any artwork for Green Lanterns hating it😂😂😂
Clayface=Morbius😂😂😂

I hope the next episodes are better...

Ep 6 was weak sauce big reveals time. My hope is that Paladin gets a big moment because he's genuinely my favourite part of this otherwise (sometimes) middling show.
