VISION Is Being Resurrected For A NEW Disney+ Series From STAR TREK: PICARD EP; Paul Bettany Will Return

Marvel Studios is developing a WandaVision spin-off series focusing on Paul Bettany's Vision, but this will be an all-new version of the previous "Vision Quest" show...

Following persistent rumors, we got confirmation that a new Disney+ WandaVision spin-off focusing on The Vision was in development at Marvel Studios back in 2022, but it seems the "Vision Quest" project has been completely revamped.

Variety reports that a new, untitled Vision series is in the works, with Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas on board as showrunner. The show is currently on track for a 2026 premiere.

Matalas' work on Picard is said to have "greatly impressed the top brass at the studio. Marvel chief Kevin Feige, an avowed Trekkie, even recently appeared with Matalas on a two-hour episode of the Star Trek podcast Inglorious Treksperts.”

Paul Bettany will reprise his role as the MCU's tragic synthezoid. There's no mention of Elizabeth Olsen's (Scarlet Witch) potential involvement, but the trade does note that the series will take place after the events of WandaVision, "as ghost Vision presumably explores his new purpose in life."

The finale of WandaVision revealed that the Vision we'd been spending time with over the course of the season was actually one of Wanda's constructs, but the real, "White Vision" was rebuilt by S.W.O.R.D. and programmed to track down and kill the Scarlet Witch. This version of the character away to parts unknown towards the end of the episode after declaring himself to be the "true Vision."

As for Wanda, last we saw of the powerful sorceress, she was laying waste to the Illuminati and bringing a mountain down on top of herself in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Previous Vision Quest rumors claimed that Vision's children, Vin and Viv, would make their MCU debuts in the show, but we have no idea which - if any - ideas from Jac Schaefer's incarnation of the series will carry over.

What do you make of this news? Be sure to drop us a comment down below.

"Marvel Studios' WandaVision blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision – two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban life – begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems."

In addition to Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as the leads, WandaVision stars Kathryn Hahn, Teyonah Parris, Debra Jo Rupp, Randall Park, and Kat Dennings. Following the success of the series, an "Agatha: Coven of Chaos" spin-off featuring the return of Hahn as Agatha Harkness was announced. We recently learned that this show would actually be titled Agatha All Along.

The story of how Paul found out he was going to become the Vision is great. I think he'll return for whatever Marvel wants him to do.

Which season of Picard? if 3 cool enough, if it's 1 or 2 then it's gonna blow chunks.

@HashTagSwagg - he was involved with seasons 2 and 3. 1 was definitely the worst.

@HashTagSwagg - Looks like he wrote 2 episodes in S2, 3 in S3. He is listed as producer on 20 episodes between S2-S3 (which I think is all of them).

I guess its a coin toss. If Vin or Viv are trans and/or gay, I guess we'll know the answer.

@HashTagSwagg - Matalas is the reason season 3 felt like a new show

Interesting…

Not too familiar with Terry Matalas’s work (I know Picard is divisive atleast among Trekkies) but was the showrunner of the 12 Monkeys show which I enjoyed from what I saw of it.

The show delved into philosophical themes which is extremely apt for Vision , especially this version that is finding new purpose in life.

Looking forward to it!!.

@TheVisionary25 - Does that mean we're getting another R rated project for the MCU in 2026? Personaly would have prefered if Wanda was having a 3-some it would have involved Aubrey Plaza's Warrior Witch not two dudes butt...

I've lost track of how many shows are currently in the works, but since we are only getting two shows per year, they must really want this to happen.

I'm looking forward to it.

It's funny how it mentions this as being "completely revamped" from what Vision Quest was going to be, but the description sounds EXACTLY like what Vision Quest was going to be...

@xfan320 - I think revanmped from the fact the original creative team won't be involved, so while it will still follow the same template, it'll be done under a new creative team and vision (no pun intended)

Like how this was gonna be developed by the WandaVision team at one point.

@WakandaTech - which, by their stated intent is still at 3 movies a year and 2 shows so what’s your point?
Urubrodi
Urubrodi - 5/22/2024, 1:49 PM
@WakandaTech - It's not like they are working or releasing all of that at the same time. If the release dates are distributed correctly then no problem.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 5/22/2024, 1:50 PM
@WakandaTech - NOT all confirmed to be in the next two years, not all confirmed to even ever get as far as being filmed, most of them haven't got a confirmed date at all yet and any that do could get pushed back and keep saying sticking to two live action shows per year from now on...

...but also mostly we're getting rumors of in early preprod and there is always WAY more projects being bounced around at that stage than ever get filmed let alone released.

Upto 3 films per year and two shows per year should never be considered excess quantity, if they manage the quality bit remains to be seen.

@WakandaTech - honestly, I could still see it work out if you don't count animation:

2025: Ironheart, Captain America 4, Daredevil S1, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man S1, Eyes of Wakanda

2026: Wonder Man, Blad, X-Men S2, Avengers 5, Spider-Man 4, Daredevil S2, What If S3

2027: Vision, Armor Wars, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man S2, Avengers 6, Shang-Chi 2, Nova

That's three movies, two television shows and two animated shows a year.

AvalonX

I think they should avoid that Vin / Viv story all together. Maybe "Vision Quest" is him trying to find himself and Wanda. Add in a couple of characters people care about and it might be good.

The problem with Vision is he really only has ties to Tony (dead), Bruce, Ultron, and Wanda. The comics version of how he gets his emotions back is too complex. Originally, he has a imprint of Wonder Mans brainwaves which complicated the Wanda/Vision relationship. Then he gets the brainwaves of some scientist. I think the easiest way to do it in the MCU is that he has to unlock it in some kind of way. Yes, he lacks the mind stone but so does Ultron (who clearly displays emotion).

I actually think it would be interesting if Ultron is the antagonist but Vision needs something from him to get his emotions back. I'd watch that.

The character has layers that shoulda been explored but instead is going through a reboot.
From what lil we've seen, he's pretty strong.

Since the moment he was created during the Infinity Saga right up until his death he has done...what? Friendly fired War Machine? lol, K.
