ASSASSIN'S CREED: Netflix's Live-Action TV Series Adds DIE HARD And THE FUGITIVE Writer

The Assassin's Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender was a flop, but Netflix is developing a live-action TV series that's just added an impressive name to its writing team. Find more details here...

Variety reports that Netflix's live-action Assassin's Creed series has enlisted Jeb Stuart as a writer. He most recently created Vikings: Valhalla (a continuation of the History Channel's Vikings) for the streaming service, but is perhaps best known for penning the likes of Die Hard and The Fugitive.

The show was announced last October and is part of a deal between Netflix and Ubisoft to develop live-action, animated, and anime TV shows based on its video games.

The Assassin's Creed series has been a huge hit on consoles with over 155 million copies sold since 2007. While recent instalments have veered away from the war between the Assassins and Templars as they look to track down the Pieces of Eden, they've been extremely well-received, moving the action to Egypt and Ancient Greece.

However, Assassin's Creed 2's exploration of Italy remains a favourite for many fans.

A movie, with an original story, was released in 2016 starring Michael Fassbender. With negative reviews from critics, a $240 million haul on a budget of $125 million meant it wasn't considered a success. As a result, it's no great surprise Ubisoft now hopes to bring the franchise to the small screen.

Other Ubisoft titles coming to Netflix include Far Cry and Splinter Cell anime series.

There's been no word on what we can expect from this take on Assassin's Creed, but it would definitely be fun to revisit the story of a familiar face from the games rather than another newly created character.

I hope they follow the games and don't create original stories. I want a live-action Ezio.

@Urubrodi - I can imagine Manu Bennett playing Ezio.

I see Ezio playing the role of mentor. So I want some Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

@Urubrodi - I'm the opposite because they will most likely [frick] up Ezio and Altiar's story because it's Netflix. They don't really care about quality control that's why most of their originals suck. I prefer a new assassin so we don't know where it's going to take us which makes it much more exciting and binge-worthy. Maybe they should go to Korea because Netflix is making so many K-dramas lol

I wouldn't mind having a new face for the historical parts, but they really have to connect both time frames with each other.

It might just be because A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones took inspiration from it, but I really wanna see Wars of the Roses as an Assassin's Creed setting. And a live-action show having that setting would be pretty cool.

Some stories are meant to be told over the course of a couple of episodes instead of one movie so I'm all for it.

I don't know how exactly to do it story-wise, but it would be incredible if they could take a page from the Highlander TV series and have the main actor(s) use the animus to appear in the different timelines from the games. The best scenes from Highlander were all the historically rooted flashbacks that really gave the show an epic scope.
