Tyler Rake lives!

Netflix has released the first official look at Extraction 2, their hotly-awaited action sequel starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and ThunderAvengers: Endgame) as the black ops mercenary Tyler Rake, who's special set of skills see him extracting the most valuable assets out of the most dangerous of situations.

The streamer has also shared the film's official synopsis, which reveals where we'll find Rake when the film picks up. It reads, "After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held."

We don't know much about the supporting cast, which will presumably consist of international talent like the previous film, but we do have confirmation that Golshifteh Farahani will return, reprising her role as Nik Khan from the first film.

Sam Hargrave also helmed the sequel, with Joe Russo once again on scripting duties. It's expected to launch on Netflix sometime in 2023.

Check out the first look featurette below:

Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in EXTRACTION 2, the sequel to Netflix's blockbuster action film EXTRACTION. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo's AGBO producing and Joe Russo writing. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first film, with Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili also co-starring.

This is a sequel to the first film that was based on the graphic novel 'Ciudad' by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando León González. EXTRACTION 2 is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Newall and Sam Hargrave, with Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Benjamin Grayson, Steven Scavelli, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely as executive producers.

I'm currently watch Thor love and thunder now.

It's better on the second run.

In extraction he was OP. He could take on Frank Castle and probably beat him up.

@AmazingFILMporg - Once is enough, there is nothing in that movie that warrants a second let alone a third viewing.

Really enjoyed the visceral, pulpy action of the first, so will be glad to see more of the same in this.

Sam Hargrave is starting to make a name for himself and I like that. He and his brother are basically the secret to why Captain America was such a badass.

It's going to be hard to recreate the magic of the first one. Not even saying the first was the greatest of all time, but it was a movie I feel we needed at the beginning of the pandemic. It was kind of the perfect storm.

With that said,I'll be there day one.

@MyCoolYoung - The thing they won't be able to recreate is the connection between Hensworth's character and the kid he was rescuing. That really added a lot of emotion to it.

With this movie taking place in a different country with different hostages, I don't know that they can recreate that same connection, or that they even should.

The action will be great, I'm sure. I just hope they keep it on the same level. He was almost invincible in the last movie, which is fine. But I don't need them to start doing ridiculous, unbelievable crap in an attempt to top the first one's action.

Just keep it on the same level. That's all it needs.

@CorndogBurglar - exactly. No fast and furious type progression in action. Challenging yourself Is fine but let's not go overboard.

I'm almost sure they'll try to make a connection between him and whatever gangster family he's rescuing. Let's hope it's not just a bigger, better, longer retread

Now this is a generic Netflix action movie I'll watch.

MyCoolYoung - 9/25/2022, 4:38 PM
@Kyos - what wouldn't you call a generic action movie?

No snark or preconceived notion. Genuine question
Kyos
Kyos - 9/25/2022, 5:36 PM
@MyCoolYoung - That's a legit and interesting question. Hm. Let's see...

The John Wick movies are very "person good at killing kills many people", but they have a certain style and the underlying worldbuilding to set them apart.

Nobody, purely because Odenkirk isn't a classic action hero type.

The Suicide Squad. *gestures at everything*

Guns Akimbo. Another less traditional action movie protagonist, combined with a rather fresh scenario.

Upgrade has very well executed, low budget action with a sci-fi twist.

Mad Max: Fury Road.

Those are some quick examples of action movies that stayed with me after watching. I couldn't tell you much anything about Extraction or The Gray Man.

MyCoolYoung - 9/25/2022, 5:42 PM
@Kyos - lol I liked the gray man for what it was, That ending was bad though. Way too "We're setting up a sequel" like actions.

Nobody, guns, and upgrade? Haven't seen them. I'll put them on the list

@Kyos - I liked The Gray man, and also the Bourne films, I'd like to see Matt Damon return for that. He was always one step ahead of everyone.

With the Russo brothers involved in so many action projects, I could imagine them directing/writing the new 007.

@Repian - would love to see Jason Bourne 2 directed by the Russo brothers, instead of Paul Greengrass, although he's done a great job, a fresh take on Jason Bourne would be nice.
