Ellen Page (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Juno) is the first cast member to join Netflix's upcoming adaptation of Gerard Way's bizarre Dark Horse comic series as Vanya Hargreeves, a.k.a. The White Violin....
According to THR, Ellen Page has joined the cast of Netflix's upcoming 10-episode adaptation of Gerard Way's Umbrella Academy. The Juno actress will play the "normal" member of the Hargreeves family, Vanya, who comes to be known as the White Violin.
This incarnation of the character is described as, "the black sheep of her dysfunctional family. She is the only one of Reginald Hargreeves' adopted children with no supernatural abilities. A meek and insecure wallflower, Vanya struggles to find her place in the world."
For those unfamiliar with the source materiel, it focuses on a dysfunctional family of superheroes (The Monocle, Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror, and The White Violin) as they attempt to put their many differences aside in order to solve the mystery of their father's death.
Umbrella Academy will be written by Jeremy Slater (The Exorcist), and has Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) on board as executive producer and showrunner. The series, which is expected to premiere sometime next year.
