THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY Has Been Renewed For A Fourth And FINAL Season On Netflix

After a messy third season, The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for a fourth run on Netflix, but this will be The Hargreeves family's final adventure! Check out a statement from Steve Blackman.

The Umbrella Academy will return for more time-displacement adventures on Netflix, but the fourth season of the popular Dark Horse comic series adaptation will be its last.

“I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago,” said showrunner Steve Blackman in a statement (via THR). “But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.”

Although the majority of critics seemed to gloss over its failings, the third season of The Umbrella Academy was a messy, disjointed affair plagued by bizarre plot and character decisions. Though it certainly had its moments, many fans felt that the show had begun to run out of ideas, so perhaps concluding the story with one last hurrah is the wisest move.

In the season 3 finale, the surviving members of the Hargreeves family and The Sparrow Academy joined forces and managed to prevent the "kugelblitz." There were casualties, but none of that mattered in the end because everything reset, with our now seemingly powerless heroes going their separate ways in an effort to live "normal" lives.

Main cast members Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya and Colm Feore are all expected to return. No premiere date has been announced.

"After putting a stop to 1963's doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren't exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone's concerns.

Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) — now all they need to do is convince Dad's new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?"

After a terrific first season the plot line became so convoluted. The second season was not good.

Still haven't seen the third season, but maybe soon. Surprises me they get a fourth season though. Didn't knew Netflix had it in them.

Well at least they get a fourth season. I don’t usually expect much from Netflix in terms of seasons and I usually receive it an abundance. All three seasons have been great and I expect season four will be too. Now give me season two of The Sandman.

Guess I'm in the minority, but I loved Season 3. It was even more quirky, but that's a distinguishing characteristic of this show.

I actually like Season 3 more than Season 2 (but still like Season 1 most).

I've liked all seasons so far, season 2 probably being my favorite. Not surpirsed it's ending though, I always expected the show to wrap up before Five's actor grows up. Hoping for a strong final season, with as much Klaus, Five and Lila as possible. Those three are my absolute favorite characters out of the bunch.

For once, one of those shows I actually like on Netflix is getting an actual finale. Happy for the cast and crew.

I wonder how many people think Elliot should be recast since his character was originally written as a woman? I mean, what is this the m he u. Amirite?

I didn’t know people didn’t like the 3rd season, I thought it was great. As someone said, it was super quirky, but that’s why I come to this show. Decent action scenes and fun character dynamics. I even liked the dance number haha. Really glad they get to have a proper ending.

Season 3 was just bad. The first episode was great, but they managed the make a season get worse with every episode. Klaus, Victor, and Diego were the only reason this season was watchable. Allison was insufferable and Luther was just straight up annoying.

@Murderisbadong - agreed on all counts. Allison was just straight up character assassination, and I'm pretty sure the guy who played Luther forgot how to act between seasons. Also, it made zero bloody sense.

@RorMachine - The show never made sense. It started with an ape-bodied hero, a talking monkey, a robot-mother figure, and a group dance number. That was Episode 1.

After this terrible last season, idk why they would push out a another one.

How convoluted is the story going to need to be to explain things now that they undid everything and don’t even have powers now.

The bar has been set spectacularly low

*shrug* I might be in the minority (on this site anyway) but I loved the third season, show is goofy as hell. Looking forward to the new one.
