THE WITCHER Has Become The First Major UK-Based Drama To Be Put On Hold Over Coronavirus Concerns

Unsurprisingly, online streaming giant Netflix has chosen halt production on The Witcher for two weeks. Deadline reports that the series is now the first major TV show produced in the UK to be put on hold by coronavirus, and notes that the fantasy drama is filmed at Arborfield Studios which is around 40 miles from London.

An email was sent out last night to the production team who will thankfully continue to be paid.

Whether this means season 2 will be delayed is unclear, as it, and every other show's fate, hinges on what happens over the coming weeks and months with the pandemic.

Alas, a significant delay would mean seeing less of the hunky Henry Cavill sitting around shirtless in a bathtub, but all joking aside, this was definitely the right decision on Netflix's part.

"We have made the decision, effective immediately, to pause production for two weeks during this difficult time…this will allow everyone the time to make informed decisions about how to move forward," a source tells the trade. "The coronavirus has raised challenging issues for everyone working on set on productions for Netflix. We are very grateful for all the work everyone has done to keep cast and crew safe during this pandemic."

Deadline adds that while The Witcher is the first overseas production to be hit in such a significant way by coronavrius, Netflix's independently-produced shows in the UK are also being encouraged to wind down for two weeks. For you Royal fans out there, that does include The Crown!
