Massive changes are coming to The Witcher when season 4 eventually rolls around as The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.
That's expected to be shot back-to-back with a fifth, and possibly final, season but Cavill hasn't bid farewell to the role quite yet! The show's third season arrives on Netflix at the end of the month, and we now have four colourful new character posters (via SFFGazette.com).
On those are Geralt (Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), Ciri (Freya Allan), and Jaskier (Joey Batey).
It's also been confirmed that a new trailer is on the way later today, so you'll want to keep your eyes peeled to SFFGazette.com as that's where we'll first be sharing it.
Cavill announced his departure from the show last year shortly before his return as Superman in Black Adam. While he no doubt anticipated having a busy few years ahead of him as the Man of Steel, DC Studios' planned DCU reboot left him ousted from the role ahead of James Gunn's DCU reboot, Superman: Legacy.
He'd supposedly been unhappy with The Witcher's creative direction for some time, of course, though we're hoping season 3 gives Cavill the chance to go out on a high before Hemsworth takes over the role.
"As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it," reads the official plot synopsis for The Witcher season 3.
"Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery."
The Witcher season 3 is coming to Netflix in two parts with the first five episodes set to premiere on June 29. The next three will then follow on July 27.
