In 2016, fans of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful said goodbye to the Victorian London-set series after three seasons. Now, after nearly four years, creator and writer John Logan is set to return with the spiritual successor to the Gothic horror show: Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

Unlike the original series, City of Angels is set in Los Angeles during 1938 and will explore Mexican-American folklore rather than iconic characters from British and Irish Gothic fiction.

In addition to adopting a new setting and style, the upcoming series will also be bringing in a new ensemble cast that includes the likes of Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, Jessica Garza, Johnathan Nieves, Adriana Barraza, Nathan Lane, Kerry Bishé, and Rory Kinnear.

Created by John Logan, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is scheduled to premiere April 26, 2020 on Showtime.

A spiritual descendant of the original Penny Dreadful story set in Victorian-era London, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) and his partner Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane) become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.

Looks interesting, but not really compelling aside from Dormer as the Angel of Death.

Looks really cool. I loved the first series. More Natalie Dormer is never a bad thing.

Miss the Gothic feel of the first show with the classic monsters, but ill give it a shot. Wonder if he can expect crossover, there were a 2 or 3 immortal characters in the first series, plus one character has the same actor as the Frankenstein Monster

The original series with Eva Green was so, so good. This trailer? I'm not impressed, and I see, from the trailer, SJW plot lines that I have no patience with.

@GeneralZod - If you mean the historically based plotlines such as the the Zoot Riots, the widely reported rampant racial discrimination and corruption in the LA police Department, and the German American Bund movement which was surging through out the United States just prior to WW2. Those are not SJW plot lines those are dark stains on the history of this country that when ever mentioned gets all you fragile lilly white males egos so butt hurt. Deal with it, read a book maybe then you learn patience for other people's plights other than your own.

@MarvelnDCLover - you're absolutely right. A lot of these white folks don't want to hear about Colored people being mistreated. They don't care or want to know or learn about people of color in America. It makes them feel uneasy.
