When The Mandalorian premiered back in 2019, we had no idea the series would end up being the opening chapter of an entire slate of stories set during what's since been dubbed the "New Republic Era."
Set approximately 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the series laid the groundwork for The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka to follow, while Skeleton Crew is now also expected to drop next year. Beyond that, we know Dave Filoni is working on a Star Wars movie which will bring all of these Disney+ franchises together.
It was during The Mandalorian's debut season we first heard about the "Night of a Thousand Tears," an Imperial-led genocide on Mandalore which saw Moff Gideon wipe out almost all life on the planet.
After Ahsoka Tano helped Bo-Katan Kryze repel Maul's invasion during the Siege of Mandalore in The Clone Wars, we know the armoured warrior was ultimately betrayed by Gideon after attempting to enter peace talks with him. That led to her losing the Darksaber and, until recently, becoming an outcast from her people.

As we recently explained on SFFGazette.com, Mandalore has been reborn, but more casualties from that initial attack were revealed in the latest episode of Ahsoka.
During a heated confrontation with Baylan Skoll, Sabine Wren is reminded that her family and friends were wiped out during the purge of Mandalore. The villain implies Ahsoka was to blame because she wouldn't let Sabine return home, though neither of them could have done much to stop Gideon.
However, it's the fact Ahsoka wanted to continue Sabine's Jedi training - Jedi aren't supposed to have attachments, remember - that may have led to the resentment between the two women. For Baylan, it's an excuse to manipulate the Mandalorian into joining him with the promise of finding Ezra Bridger and not being harmed.
This tragic development better links Ahsoka to The Mandalorian and we'll be surprised if we don't eventually see Sabine learn what's currently happening on her planet after Bo-Katan relit the Great Forge alongside The Armorer.
Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, the series stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.
Ahsoka was written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.
The first four episodes of Ahsoka are now streaming on Disney+.
