THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Rumored To Feature The Live-Action Debut Of Cad Bane

Notorious bounty hunter Cad Bane has been a staple of the animated corner of the galaxy far, far away for many years, but could the fan-favourite character be set to make his live-action debut in TBOBF?

Cad Bane was introduced in The Clone Wars many years ago, and has since gone on to become something of a staple of the animated corner or the galaxy far, far away. Fans have been wondering if they'd ever see the ruthless bounty hunter make the jump to live action, and a new rumor claims that Bane will appear in upcoming Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett.

We've heard that Fett will encounter some of his old "friends" in The Mandalorian spinoff (Bossk is also expected to appear), and the iconic mercenary does have history with Bane, who also faced-off with Fennec Shand in a recent episode of The Bad Batch. So, the man with no name-inspired gunslinger showing up in TBOBF would make sense.

We still don't know a whole lot about The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian season 2 finale post-credits scene saw the infamous bounty hunter (Temuera Morrison) arrive to Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine along with fellow mercenary Shand (Na Wen). After dispatching Bib Fortuna, Fett seemingly claimed Jabba's throne for himself, hinting that he also plans to take over the notorious gangster's crime syndicate.

Jon Favreau will produce TBOBF along with Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez, who helmed the Fett-centric chapter of The Mandalorian, "The Tragedy."

I’d lose my sh*t if true. One of the best villains from the clone wars.

Is this real??? I don't keep up with SW, but this is an alien ripoff of DC's Bane! I'm calling it now. Lawsuit in 5, 4, 3...

@VictorAlonzo - ...You do know that "Bane" is just a word, right? DC doesn't have sole ownership over those four letters such that anyone who puts them into that order owes them money.

Star Wars also has a Darth Bane (no relation to Cad) that... now that I'm thinking about it does actually look sort of like a negative-image version of DC's Bane...

Okay, maybe it doesn't look like DC's Bane as much as I thought it did. Just a little with the KISS makeup around the eyes.

But the point is: DC's rights to Bane are restricted to trademark (assuming they have registered it) and copyright (in which all of Bane's distinctive characteristics as a character are considered).

The easiest test to prove a violation a trademark in this case would probably be for WB to prove that a Cad Bane toy on a shelf could be mistaken for a Bane toy on a shelf by a casual consumer. But because Cad Bane toys are very prominently marked "Star Wars" and DC's Bane toys typically have "DC" or "Batman" logos on it, that confusion is unlikely.

You'll notice that both Bane™ and Cad Bane™ are trademarked here. So, clearly the trademark office has no problem with the similarity.

On the copyright side, it's a much harder lift. In order to prove something is a ripoff, you'd have to convince a judge that a Duros bountyhunter best known for using a jetpack and blasters essentially the same as a juiced-up Central American wrestler best known for his bulging muscle rampages. There's not actually a lot of similarity there (beyond red eyes, I guess).

Look, there have been worse lawsuits based on far shakier ground, but considering that Cad Bane has been a thing for 12 years without a problem, I don't see WB raising a stink now.

@Spock0Clock - as I said earlier, I don't keep up with Star Wars. The fact that the guys name IS Bane makes this astronomically more ridiculous. He has red eyes, two tubes on both sides of his face and T-shaped design headgear. My arm is not halfway stretched here. 12 years is a long time now. Maybe they've decided to fatten the chicken before plucking the feathers.

Ah you see, Din djarin merely adopted the dark. Bane was born of it. Molded by it.

@JFerguson - Michael K. Williams is just too great to bury under make-up. What about Jolee Bindo in an Old Republic series, though?

@TheWalkingCuban - I mean, it's more likely they just took the words "cad" and "bane" and made a name out of it.

Surprised he'd be alive after all this time. As someone who has seen all of TCW, most of Rebels and The Bad Batch, lmk if he was killed at some point or another
