THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Stills Confirm Mark Hamill Shot All Of Luke Skywalker's Scenes In The Show

While fans had their minds blown by Luke Skywalker's return in The Mandalorian, there were some criticisms aimed at the quality of visual effects used to make Mark Hamill look as he did at the time Return of the Jedi was released. The FX were a lot better for the Jedi Knight's appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, though details on how that was achieved left us under the impression that Hamill wasn't involved.

Actor Graham Hamilton served as a stand-in for the young Luke, while clever Deepfake technology was used to de-age Hamill's face and put it on the actor's body. As for the character's voice, it was synthesized in a computer, resulting in fans wondering if the original Luke Skywalker was even needed.

Well, it turns out Hamill was present on set. Suited and booted as the iconic Star Wars character, it looks like he was in every single scene, probably as a reference for the visual effects teams.

It's awesome that Hamill was able to lend his talents to The Book of Boba Fett in this way and we hope the trend continues. You can see much more of him on the show's set by checking out the latest Disney Gallery special now streaming on Disney+, but you'll find some stills from the episode below along with a new photo shared by Rosario Dawson of her hanging out with the two Lukes on the show's set.

I really appreciate him doing this. Sure, of course he got paid for it, but still most actors wouldn't bother doing this. Acting out the entire role knowing non of it is going to be on the actually show, just doing it to help them get the best version of the character they can. Fair play.

@Twistedink85 - do you know when to use "actual" and "actually"?

That's cool. Just wish they didn't use the completely lifeless AI generated voice

@FinnishDude - It's a difficult one, as Hamill's voice has aged so can't be used, but I think they would have been better off getting someone who can do an impression of a young Hamill's voice rather than using the AI.

@Twistedink85 - That honestly would have been the best option.

How crazy is deepfake now, where you can just replace an actor by using a stunt double and CGI face. Hamil's face, voice, and performance was completely rendered by Vfx. No point in working out or casting new actors if you can just cheat. The future of hollywood is going to be filled with nothing but familiar faces.

Porn is going to be interesting lol

@mastakilla39 - I don't think we are there yet, considering how lifeless the CG-Luke was.

@FinnishDude - Yeah, it's still a long way off from being perfect.

@mastakilla39 - Honestly, I hope this technology is going to get outlawed at some point. This shouldn't be out there. Yeah, it's impressive but boy is this stuff dangerous.

@Drace24 - It's not going to be outlawed in the case of film and TV though because the actors are giving consent.

Also, good luck outlawing tech once its been developed. It would be like trying to outlaw the internet.

I really love that he gets to do this. But still... I just wish they'd cast Sebastian Stan or some other actor to play young Luke. They did it with Han. And they are apperantly doing it with Leia for Kenobi. I get wanting to stay faithful to those roles but think of the possibilities! Brand new stories with Luke, Han and Leia. As many as you want. All you'd need to do is recast the roles. I think the positive aspects of this far outweigh the negatives.

I feel like they only do this so that they can have behind the scenes photos of him on set. There really isn’t any point in having him there at this point

That's awesome.

and to think Sebastian Stan was waiting for that call.......

Always nice to see him involved still.
But I do not understand why they don't just hire Sebastian Stan. Way cheaper and efficient and even Hamill agrees he makes a great young Luke!

Pointless since they didn't even use his voice.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - It was to teach the stunt double how to do the scene. So it wasn't pointless. That's the only reason they brought him in.
