We're now just a few weeks away from the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett, and fans are still mostly in the dark when it comes to plot details. We know the basic premise: Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) arrive on Tatooine to take over Jabba the Hutt's crime syndicate, and attempt to rule the desert planet's underworld through honor, not fear.
The trailers haven't really given us much more to go on, and director/showrunner Robert Rodriguez has now suggested that this is very much by design.
During an interview with THR, the Sin City filmmaker reveals that the teasers have been so vague because the marketing team couldn't even use any shots from the second half the first episode for fear of spoiling something.
"We can’t use the second half of the first episode because it gives so much away,” Rodriguez explains. "Things turn up you don’t expect, you see things we couldn’t believe we got to do. Every episode has big surprises."
We're not sure exactly what these surprises will entail, but there have been rumors that The Mandalorian himself, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), might drop in for a cameo, and we've heard that Grgu could show up. Early reports also indicated that some of Fett's bounty hunter "pals" such as Dengar, Bossk and maybe even Cad Bane will appear.
It's also been confirmed that we will flash-back to the events of The Return of The Jedi over the course of the seven episode first season, and find out exactly how the legendary mercenary managed to escape the Sarlacc Pit. Plus, THR hints that we might return "to other moments during Fett’s unseen time during the original trilogy-era as well."
Jon Favreau will produce TBOBF along with Rodriguez and Dave Filoni. Steph Green (HBO's Watchmen, The Americans) and Kevin Tancharoen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will direct episodes along with Rodriguez, Filoni and Bryce Dallas Howard.
