OBI-WAN KENOBI Is Reportedly Getting A Second Season And Some Early Spoilers Have Been Revealed

With record streaming numbers for those first two episodes, Lucasfilm is said to be developing a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi! As well as details on that, we may also have intel on plans for Reva...

Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com) has become a reliable source for news and leaks in recent years, something that's evident from the Obi-Wan Kenobi details they shared prior to the show's arrival on Disney+. While we always have to take rumours with a pinch of salt, this one is pretty easy to buy into and is likely to be welcomed by those of you who have been loving the phenomenal "limited" series.

As you might expect, Disney and Lucasfilm are extremely happy with those premiere numbers (Obi-Wan Kenobi is the streaming service's most-watched original series), and there are now tentative plans in place for a second season. The site isn't sure if it will be billed as a season 2 or something else entirely, but the plan is to continue telling stories in this corner of the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Ewan McGregor has expressed interest in returning, of course, and even though another clash with Darth Vader is unlikely, there are plenty of other stories that could be told...with Maul, for example!

Here's where we get into SPOILERS

While the original plan was reportedly to end Obi-Wan Kenobi with Reva being killed by Darth Vader for pretending to have slain the Jedi (after she secretly learned who he's protecting on Tatooine), the character is now expected to survive. How Reva's story will continue is unclear, but it's said that The Grand Inquisitor is also alive and likely to factor into "season 2" plans.

We'll see if and how this all pans out, but it's certainly exciting. While Lucasfilm needs to ensure they find a tale worth telling with "Ben," if the first few episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi we've seen are any indication, we don't need to be worried about the Jedi Master's story continuing with another season.

if true...so how was nobody able to find luke and obi wan, if he is going to be going on yearly adventures, how is he going to get the crazy old hermit rep

@dracula - sounds like that's a story they could tell....

@Itwasme - assuming they keep him on tatooine this time instead of running off fighting people who should be able to track him down after

@dracula - yeah. I still think it should've taken a cue from old Clint Eastwood westerns and have just been obi wan saving people on a small scale. Not this planet hoping rescue we're now learning he's going to be doing regularly.

@dracula - either way. He could be off on adventures the entire time leading up to teaming up with Luke. Unlike now he was ready to go in a heartbeat. If anything, looking back on it you can see that it's actually far more likely he's been off on adventures the entire time vs sitting on Tatooine. Leah literally just said "we need your help" and he was like "let's ride." That's 100% different than where he is today and he's not likely to get that way sitting around being a hermit the entire time.

@dracula - after 10 years in hiding, a random unimportant Jedi was able to track him down on Tattoine with ease and absolutely no explanation of how. Then not even a day later Bail Organa breaks into his home....

It's becoming painfully clear Disney just rushes these products out. I'm not even gonna call them films and series... they are products.

It became painfully clear to me when watching this video of Mark Hamill that Disney doesn't respect the material like George did.

In that video, Mark over and over shows how he gets this franchise on a level Disney never will. George set the standard, he fleshed out this world he was building and had an answer and motivation for everything. If an actor had a question or concern, George had already thought of it and had the answer. George may have had some questionable creative choices, but they were always well thought out and backed by reason and made sense in the context of his world building. And he wasn't so stubborn that he wasn't willing to deviate if his crew and writing team came up with something better George liked.

It's clear that Mark is used to an extremely detailed vision and approach to character work, a standard set by George. George helped his entire cast and crew understand his vision and WHO these characters are.

Hamill struggled on the new movies so much because not a single person mating the sequel trilogies new the plan. Because there was never a plan. Rey couldn't develop as a character because there was never an architect behind the new movies crafting characters, they farted out cliche place holders expecting the next team to flesh them out, then Rian took a shit over everything, and with one movie left they had no time to develop so they just vomited nostalgia and fan service onto the screen and pushed it out.

That's all Disney Star Wars has been. And the best of the best of Disney Star Wars is anything Dave and Jon have been a part of because they, more so, understand character work and world building.

And it's painfully obvious they aren't a part of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Because this show is as Hollow and pointless as the sequel trilogy. No grand ideas, no brilliant world building or character work.... just recycled Logan tropes and the illusion of depth.

This show feels heartless, despite Ewans best efforts. 3 episodes left and I kinda don't care about them. I kinda don't care if Obi-Wan and Vader fight again. The only reason imma keep watching is to see if they use Hayden in any meaningful way that actually pulls on some heart strings or if they are just gonna play it safe and cheat us on the meat of this story.

@dracula - Perhaps Season 2 could focus on Cal Kestis seeking the help of Obi Wan to help him find and secure force sensitive individuals from the Inquisitors. Could be interesting if Third Sister and First Brother are the two who are hunting the younglings and perhaps have Maul and the Crimson Dawn play a role.

@SonOfAGif - Maul?

man we would really be messing with continuity there

@dracula - Not necessarily if they keep it strictly to Maul and the Crimson Dawn and not in direct conflict with Obi Wan.

I felt a great disturbance in the Fandom; As if millions of wankers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

IDK how I feel about the story being changed just for the sake of milking the whole thing and prolonging it. If they have an idea for another series that's one thing but don't kill the pacing they already decided on because they see dollar signs.

@Nightwing1015 - yeah. I still don't get the reason for having obi wan not know anakin is still alive. It doesn't add much since he was already committed to training Luke in the very beginning of the series, his goal hasn't changed after learning this as he's actively running away from the inquisitors and Vader like before, and it's never been something fans were confused by. It's just irrelevant.
StSteven
StSteven - 6/4/2022, 11:13 PM
@Origame - Well, I think that once Obi Wan cut himself of from the Force and went on self-exile on Tattoine he wouldn't have known that Anakin was still alive. He probably had heard of Darth Vader but wouldn't have put two and two together until he "turned his Force juices back on" as he did to save Leia and from what Reva said.

As far as from a narrative point of view, Obi Wan thinking all these years that he killed Anakin (or at least left him to die) further exasperated his guilt, by him feeling that not only had he failed Anakin as a mentor and a friend, but also was responsible for the death of his student, friend, and father of his children. That's a hell of a lot of guilt to carry around with you for 10 years and helps to explain why Obi Wan is as broken down as he is when we catch up with him in this series. Plus, there is the emotional gut-punch that he experiences at the end of Ep. 2 when he finds out that Anakin is still alive. Plus plus, that also kind of contributes to how poorly he stood up to Vader in their first confrontation: Vader has been waiting (and presumably practicing) for his eventual confrontation with Obi Wan, whereas Obi Wan (who was already well out of practice) had just learned that Anakin was still alive.

That's a lot of words to say that although it may seem to be a bit of a contrived plot device, in this context it makes sense to me.
