Ewan McGregor picked up his first Emmy during last night's ceremony for his role in Netflix's Halston. In that series, he played the iconic fashion designer (born Roy Halston Frowick), exploring his rise to fame during the 1970s and beyond. Of course, for Star Wars fans, they're quite a bit more excited to see the actor on the small screen in Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi.
We're hoping that series will arrive on the streaming service sometime next year, and McGregor assured Deadline that fans won't be disappointed in an interview following his Emmy win.
"We finished shooting our series, and it was really, really good fun," he revealed. "I really enjoyed working with [director/executive producer] Deborah Chow, and I think it will not disappoint. The new technology that we employed doing it is cool, and it was a different experience than making the original three films that I did."
McGregor will be joined in Obi-Wan Kenobi by Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Maya Erskine, Rupert Friend, Moses Ingram, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kan, Simone Kessell, Kumail Nanjiani, Bonnie Piesse, Benny Sadie, and Indira Varma. Aside from Christensen's long-awaited return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, we don't actually know who anyone is playing.
A premiere date has yet to be announced, though it would be surprising if the show didn't arrive before The Mandalorian's third season (which is likely eyeing up a Winter 2022 debut).
There are a lot of expectations for Obi-Wan Kenobi to deliver something special for fans, and it's a good sign that McGregor is confident in its chances. We've seen rumours pointing to everything from a clash between the Jedi Master and Darth Vader to The Clone Wars flashbacks, but time will tell on that front.
