OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Ewan McGregor Reveals The Crew's Reaction To Seeing Hayden Christensen As Darth Vader

This week's episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi finally brought the Jedi Master and Darth Vader together for the epic rematch we've all been waiting for. It was an intense, devastating battle that reminded us all just how terrifying the man once known as Anakin Skywalker has become since giving himself over to the Dark Side as a Sith Lord.

Hayden Christensen was in the costume, of course, and during an interview with Entertainment Tonight (via SFFGazette.com), Ewan McGregor recalled the crew's reaction to seeing his co-star as Vader.

"I was like, 'Why are there so many people here today?'" the actor recalled. "Hayden walks out in the suit, and I was like, 'Oh, of course, that’s why everyone is here. Everyone is here to see this moment.' I’ve never quite seen a crew react the way they reacted when [Hayden] came on set for the first time as Vader."

"I mean, it was like one of the greatest moments on any film set that I have ever seen."

With these comments comes another round of spoiler stills from the third episode. As you can see below, the images offer a closer look at "Ben" and Leia, the Sith Inquisitors, and some Stormtroopers. No doubt more of these will be shared soon, hopefully giving us a closer look at that climactic duel!

@Randomusername - It almost sounded to me like Hayden doing the voice, with the deepfake James Earl Jones voice over it. It had his whiny inflection kinda

@UncleHarm1 - Hayden actually has a pretty manly voice in real life. His prequel voice is a act apparently. Very surprsing. Hopefully he does his manly voice in the show.

Not sure I heard Hayden. But I will rewatch

@Randomusername - Whiny might not be the right word, he kinda overemphasizes one word out of a sentence. "I don't like saaand". This show has its faults but I got no complaints about Vader so far

I hope that the second round on the planet Mustafar is better than the last fight between them. Also, I expect to see Vader damaged.

He didn’t have the Vader walk down just right but I can chalk that up to Vader being younger.

James Earl Jones’ voice sounded excellent, much better than in Rogue One.
I figured it was him recording the dialogue and them doing some enhancements.
It turns out that the company Respeecher actually constructed his voice from old recordings of Jones in the past.

So let me get this straight, Vader has been obsessed with finding Obi Wan for 10 years and he finally catches him then stands there and does absolutely nothing while Obi Wan is saved? He used the force to put the fire that he created out and then doesn’t attempt to put the fire out again or use the force to crush the droid saving Obi Wan or use the force to lift Obi Wan up over the fire to him? After 10 years of searching and he just stands there like a chump? 🤷‍♂️

@AnthonyVonGeek - Don't forget the Indira Varma character leaving Leia alone to come back and save Kenobi from Vader, which for some reason she thinks she can do. And then she turns up at the perfect moment and saves him with two lucky improvised shots. Really feels like the writers were not even trying.

@AnthonyVonGeek - let's just pretend most of that scene didn't happen. Let's also pretend that Obi-Wan didn't suffer 3rd degree burns during his immolation.

@AnthonyVonGeek - Lots of people are arguing that Vader is now just toying with Obi-Wan and wants to make him suffer. Hopefully the next episode offers some clarification. Otherwise I'm just confused.

@Pssst - I’m not even looking for it and actually wanted to deny it was happening but Obi Wan is made inept, led around by a 10-year-old girl, hinted by a woman inquisitor of whom he is deathly afraid, and save by a woman from Vader.

Maybe the YouTubers are right.

@SpaceParanoids - Not crazy about the show and I don't plan on keep watching it, but I'm not annoyed by the things you mentioned. They may be overplaying the fact that Obi-Wan has not gotten over the trauma from everything that happened in Revenge of the Sith, but I get where they are coming from. He is terrified of fighting and he is full of self-doubt, but I don't think they are making him weak just for the women around him to seem stronger. He seems to be ready to shit his pants while facing any Inquisitor, woman or not.

The show has many problems and lazy writing, but I think making this about gender is a mistake.

@Pssst - I just noticed it only because it became pretty obvious.

The line that really worked well with it's delivery was when Obi Wan asked Darth Vader "What have you become?" And Vader replied in the most frustrated, painful, and saddened tone "I am what you made me!" You could almost hear the pain in Anakin's voice through the voice changer. It was a very well delivered line.
