OBI-WAN KENOBI's Two-Episode Premiere Was The Most-Watched Disney+ Original Series Debut Worldwide

We knew Obi-Wan Kenobi was highly-anticipated, but we didn't expect this! Disney+ has announced that the show's two-episode debut was officially the most-watched original series premiere to date...

Star Wars Fans have been clamouring for an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie or TV series for many years now, and it looks like that anticipation has propelled the first two episodes of the Disney+ show to unprecedented heights on the streaming service.

Though no official figures have been shared (they never are), a press release  claims that the two two-episode debut of Obi-Wan Kenobi is now the most-watched Disney+ Original series premiere globally to date, based on hours streamed in an opening weekend.

This is a pretty major accomplishment when you factor in how popular previous live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett were, not to mention the massive success of Marvel Studios shows such as Loki, Hawkeye and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Of course, not everyone was overly impressed by these first instalments, but Ewan McGregor's star power and the promise of learning more about the legendary Jedi's time on Tatooine (and beyond) pre-A New Hope clearly ensured that more than enough people tuned in.

Episode 3 of Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming, and it's quite something. No spoilers here in case you haven't had a chance to watch yet, but be sure to check back for our recap a little later on.

@bobevanz - Gotta agree with you here..

While it still isn't perfect, Ewan is what Star Wars needs.

I liked Vader's assesmbly , how he was using the civilians for bait and hearing the sweet sound of JEJ's voice. I wonder if they used some of the tech to do it instead of a fresh recording? he sounded more youthful than in Rogue One.

I didn't like how Obi Wan ran with his tale between his legs twice though... i'm sure it was better in writing, but the execution...?

Also why did he struggle with that barrier? why didn't he just walk around it? that had me laughing. lol

@UniqNo - Vader saved and made this episode, same with Haydens cameo moment, I found that cool. I also liked the Obi-Wan and Leia moments in this episode a lot.

Everything else I laughed at quite a bit. This show has exceptional moments but also really really painfully amateur moments that are laughably bad.

@UGLYsonic - speaking of laughs, did Braff play the transport guy or was it one of the storm troopers? i was actually thinking the transport guy sounded like Seth Rogen. haha

@UniqNo - idk I saw his name in the credits but honestly didn't care to investigate. I kinda just assumed it was the driver.

I feel like I should have waited for all the episodes of this show to come out before starting. Each episode isn't enough. Right as it starts getting good it ends. And instead of just moving along to the next episode, I have a week to think about how all the stuff I didn't like really bugs me.

This episode was the best so far, but still had moments I thought were stupid, just like the other episodes.

:spoilers:

My biggest issue was how Obi-Wan got away from Vader. Vader literally puts out the flames he egnited seconds before using the force when tossing Obi-Wan out. Then chick shoots the flammable substance to engnite them again and Vader just stands there and let's a slow ass Droid wabble over, pick up Obi-Wan and wabble away, then Vader just turns around and leaves....... uh what? We just saw him put out the flames effortlessly.

The whole time I was on the edge of my seat wondering how Obi-Wan could possibly escape with Vader on him, there's no way even with that regular lady trying to help, Vader wasn't alone either... so I logicaly thought he would be captured unless like a couple new characters show up or some Jedi come to his aid or something logical and clever... but no, the writers just let him escape because the show has to happen....

This show has good writing at times then terrible writing at times.

@UGLYsonic - I agree with your points. I think the series would have worked better as a feature film personally, but we're so spoilt for stuff these days that we still find flaws in weekly releases.

I feel the writing was fine, but the way they executed it on screen was poor. that's my assumption anyway.. it could very well be the writing.

I also assume this is how we're going to see Hayden's face more, and like that idea of him haunting Obi Wan as opposed to just knowing he's under the suit not even speaking. That would be a waste if that was the only way Hayden gets billed.

@GoofBallAbe - I added a spoiler tag just because I don't wish to be argumentative at 4:30 in the morning... but if you're reading comments about the episode that just aired on an article about the show in question, expect spoilers.

There literally isn't a single comment on this article at the time of this response not about the episode that came out tonight. Just fair warning.

Good.
I enjoyed the first two episodes a LOT and think they're the best next to Mado S1/2 that Disney ever did for Star Wars.

Sure, people will always be pissy they didn't get exactly what they wanted but IMO the show is fine.

@UniqNo - Oh so it is... sorry, because they released together I forgot it was a double-episode. Anyway, it's hardly a spoiler at this stage... be different if I used a banner from ep 3. But I'll change it.

really mess with continuity here

'last we met i was but the learner now i am the master"

should not meet after mustafar until the death star
Odin
Odin - 6/1/2022, 3:16 PM
@dracula - Well I don't know how the rest of the show will go, but I guess you could argue it's a metaphorical remark. Deathstar was the first time since Mustafar he met Obi-Wan, the jedi master with skill to actually challange him. In ep three Vader only met 'Ben', a washed up hasbeen who seemingly has no actual fighting skill or connection to the force left. Nothing like the cool and collected jedi who ones trained him. Would also explain why Vader was able sense Obi-Wan's presence on the Deathstar before knowing he was there, but not in the town dispite knowing he was there.
