STAR WARS: OBI-WAN KENOBI Disney+ Series Reportedly HAS Been Put On Hold After All

Last week, a rumor did the rounds that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series had been cancelled. It was quickly debunked, but now a far more reliable source is claiming that there might have been some truth to it...

It looks like the planned Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series may have hit a pretty big setback after all.

Although last week's rumor that the live-action Star Wars show had been cancelled appears to have been an exaggeration, Collider is reporting that the series has been delayed, and the crew that had assembled at Pinewood Studios in London were sent home after being informed that production had been shelved “indefinitely.”

Apparently, Lucasfilm president and Obi-Wan producer Kathleen Kennedy wasn't very happy with the scripts, and wants them to be reworked before cameras can begin rolling again this summer. If this is true, it's probably for the best. Lucasfilm has developed a bit of a reputation for rushing projects into production before they're ready, after all.

Despite the usually reliable source, we'll have to treat this as a rumor until we learn more. For now, let us know what you think of this development in the comments.

UPDATE: THR has confirmed the report and added a few tidbits.

It seems Ewan Mcgregor and Deborah Chow are still very much on board, but there was an issue with the scripts (it sounds like Kenobi offering a guiding hand to the young Luke Skywalker may have been a bit too similar to The Mandalorian) and a new writer is now being sought. There's also talk of reducing the episode count from six to four.

Wow, yeah, there’s a massive difference between a project is cancelled and the scripts need to be reworked.

@TheUnworthyThor -
The crew and costumers have been let go to find other work.

@TheUnworthyThor - Yeah but being put on "indefinite hold" doesnt bode well either. There are plenty of movies and tv shows that havent gotten off the ground in YEARS because of script reworks. Sure its not canceled (yet) but it definitely aint coming out anytime soon either.

@Himura - It was a project without a release date. A delay is meaningless to us. There is no way Disney isn’t moving forward with an Obi-wan show (unless they decided to turn it back into a movie) after the huge giant great success that was The Mandalorian. It’s hard to look at them wanting to make the show better as anything but good news.

@Battabing - That’s what always happen with these delays. Completely uncalled for not allow people to find work, they’ll be back. There is no way Disney isn’t making an Obi-wan show after the huge success they had with The Mandalorian. But if it wasn’t going to be on the same level as Mando then it’s good news not bad that they are taking their time.

If Kennedy dislikes it then it's probably a good script.
