Andor may have received high praise from critics, but some viewership data suggests the Disney+ series is drawing a considerably lower number of Star Wars fans on a weekly basis. Read on for details...

Following a last-minute premiere date delay, Andor finally arrived on Disney+ last month. The first three episodes were dropped in one go, likely due to the slow-burn nature of the series (though we'd argue it wasn't until the end of the fourth chapter that the latest Star Wars TV series offered fans a compelling hook to return the following week).

Regardless, while Andor has been a critical hit, with some lauding it as the best Star Wars project of the Disney era, that doesn't appear to be translating to viewership.

As of right now, Andor is said to be drawing smaller numbers than The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Looking at these figures, the daily demand for the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel is roughly ten times lower than those shows, leading many to wonder what's gone wrong.

While some pundits suggest it's competition from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon, that doesn't really make much sense. Those are fantasy TV shows that air on totally different days, and while many fans have shared high praise for Andor, it's also not a Star Wars project that, well, feels overly Star Wars-y.

Throw in a lack of action and relatively little world-building, and these figures start making a little more sense. It's a shame in many ways, but Andor has already been given a green light for a second season, so cancellation isn't beckoning (short of a huge U-Turn from Lucasfilm). However, it no longer running for five seasons as originally planned seems like a wise decision.

@mackmick761 - Not for me. I think it's the best Star Wars production since Empire Strikes Back.

@mackmick761 - lmao you’re a [frick]in idiot if you actually think this show is boring. Go spin a [frick]in fidget spinner if your attention span is too short for this show

@mackmick761 - doesnt seem boring.it's actually onw of the best star wars prequels ever made without relying on classic star wars camera trick or transitions...the story is much better than what we see in obi one kenobi

I mean, yeah, isn’t that a given? Of course it isn’t going to rate as high as those.

Great show though

The show is SO boring it should come with a disclaimer "Do not operate heavy machinery while watching the show"

And it should be sponsored by Ambien.

Speaking of crappy shows. The Hulu original Grimcutty.....should be called GrimCruddy because it was HORRIBLE.
Not scary. Poorly written. Don't waste your time on this.

@TyrantBossMedia - I keep hearing this complaint but I just don't get it... House of dragons is equally as dialogue driven and a slow burn but I haven't seen nearly as much hate or issues with it. And this show has more action 🤔

@BatmanBeenDrinking - Oh I am bored as hell with House of Dragons. The last three episodes have been mind numbing. And I really hated that they replaced the girl who played the princess because they had to make her older. I was JUST getting invested in her storyline then they change her.

Not good.

@BatmanBeenDrinking - I haven't seen House of Dragons yet, but since it's written by George Martin I'm guessing it has better storytelling.

Pace is never boring if there's good storytelling.

(and no, well-written dialogue doesn' count as 'good storytelling')

BatmanBeenDrinking - 10/19/2022, 12:27 PM
@ObserverIO - I agree with you that dialogue doesn't make the show good or bad but it does compliment it. For me the show is showing the gritty side of the Star wars universe that doesn't get tapped into as often and it's doing a great job of showcasing it. But my point is that both of these shows are coming from an established world and are doing a great job at presenting their story in a compelling and well-paced manner. both of them being character driven and really fleshing out why these characters are they way they are.

@BatmanBeenDrinking - I like that it's showing the gritty underbelly and I hope the viewership figures don't dissuade Kennedy from doing more like this.
In fact, I'm of the opinion that this show could be even more adult in terms of content and that there'd be an audience for that.

There was a random woman in bed in today's episode covering her chest. She could have been casually naked and no covering her chest and I wouldn't have noticed, because it wouldn't have seemed at all out of place with the tone of the show.
In fact it was probably more noticeable that she was making sure she was covered up. I suddenly thought "Oh of course, because it's Star Wars".

I'd be fine with casual nudity in this show.

BatmanBeenDrinking - 10/19/2022, 3:00 PM
@ObserverIO - that's never gonna happen, and not because it's star wars but because it's Disney.

To me small details like that don't bather me because it's nit pickie and does not impact the story.
Dredd97
Dredd97 - 10/18/2022, 9:08 PM
because it's written so much better than the others? it's an actual show and not a self reference point and shout show like the rest
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 10/18/2022, 9:31 PM
@Dredd97 - "Written so much better"?

I guess if you consider introducing character after character and not developing any of them
DavidMullich
DavidMullich - 10/18/2022, 11:11 PM
@TyrantBossMedia - All of the characters have been very well developed.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 10/18/2022, 11:45 PM
@Dredd97 - It's because of the whole prequel perception many people (including myself) have. If we know how the story ends, what does a prequel do to change anything or build upon it? For an example Andor. We know he and the cast of Rogue One die but successfully deliver the message to the Resistance. But what does Andor do for the story? I'm not looking for an argument or for a negative debate. It's just a genuine perception many people have when it comes to prequels.

@TyrantBossMedia -

The storytelling structure is like an early '90s Image comic, but with decent dialogue.

It's because it's not bombastic.
And the American intelligence level is very low for some reason. So they don't know good if it slapped them in the face
