Star Wars Celebration kicked off with a panel looking at Lucasfilm's upcoming movies and TV shows, and the studio has now shared the first trailer and poster for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel, Andor (via SFFGazette.com).

During the event, it was confirmed that Lucasfilm has shot 12 episodes of Andor, with plans for a second season (also consisting of 12 episodes) now official. The first 12 will take place 5 years before the events of Rogue One, with the second lot set during the subsequent 4; based on what those in attendance are saying, the finale will take us straight into Cassian's first scene in the 2016 movie.

24 episodes for this prequel series is certainly ambitious, but it sounds like the plan is to explore this era in a way that hasn't been done before. Between that and the chance to follow the title character's story, we can't help but be intrigued by where this is going.

Andor will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller.
