There were two massive cameos in Obi-Wan Kenobi's finale, and we're now taking a closer look at those and delving into what exactly they might mean for the Star Wars franchise beyond just this show...

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a series that's definitely delivered its fair share of surprises over the course of its first five episodes, but the finale had moments we're sure left many jaws on the floor.

Shortly after being defeated by Obi-Wan (you can read more about that by clicking here), we find Darth Vader back on his throne inside that castle on Mustafar. The furious Sith Lord vows to find Kenobi and destroy him, but his new Master, Emperor Palpatine, seems to have a different take. Yes, Ian McDiarmid reprises the role for a cameo as the iconic villain via hologram.

Pointing out that Vader seems "agitated," Palpatine wonders if Vader's thoughts are clear on this matter and suggests his feelings for his old Master have left the Sith Lord weakened. It's then he appears to threaten his apprentice, saying "If your past cannot be overcome..."

The Emperor never finishes his threat, but based on how he's treated Vader in various comic book tie-ins, we're sure the villain knows what Palpatine is getting at here. After all, each of the Sith Inquisitors is eagerly waiting in the wings to take his place! Vowing to only serve the Emperor, Vader says Kenobi means nothing and that's where we leave him.

Has his hunt for Obi-Wan truly ended? If so, it might explain why he felt he was now the Master when they clashed again in A New Hope, but the door may be open for further stories.

Elsewhere in this finale, Ben eventually returns to Tatooine and is travelling through the desert to what we assume will be the home he makes for himself by the time Luke crosses paths with him again years later. A Force Ghost suddenly greets Ben, and it's Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn! He wonders what took his old Padawan so long and says he was always there; Obi-Wan just wasn't ready to see him.

With that, they set off together, likely to begin the training that will eventually see Obi-Wan become more powerful than Vader could ever possibly imagine.

@MrDandy - That's cause Liam looked 60 when he was 30.

@Typhoon20 - PRECISELY. That’s what far too many of the people on this site adhere to.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I feel like Season 2 should have Obi Wan help Cal Kestis and the two discover that Mace Windu is still alive and has been trying to rebuild the Jedi order but The Empire has been a problem and they have deployed the First Brother who used to be a Jedi Temple Guard to eliminate Mace Windu. I also think Season 2 should show us that it was Mace who rescued Grogu after his fall from the building during Order 66 and it was Yoda who specifically requested Grogu's safety.

@SonOfAGif - i like it, bringing cal, obi and mace together would be epic.

@ReverseFlasher - I think it would be a great on the run type of journey with them three. Not to mention Mace and Obi Wan giving techniques and wisdom to Cal.

@kylo0607 - you mean episode 9? I thought the makeup made him look pretty bad and old here, and he should look younger than episode 4, which i dont think he does.

Wait a min. In Clone Wars Qui Gon admitted that he didn’t finish his training before death and couldn’t become a full force ghost only small glowing specs and now all the sudden he can?
It’s like the writers of this show did absolutely no research and made it their own thing.

@AnthonyVonGeek - Ummm sir. Yoda explained to Obi Wan that he was going to teach him how to communicate with Qui Gon at the end of Revenge of the Sith.

@SonOfAGif - yeah communicate the way Yoda in Clone Wars did. Qui Gon admitted to Yoda in the episode that his training was incomplete before his death and he couldn’t become a full force ghost.
He explains it to Yoda here.

@AnthonyVonGeek - As much as I loved Clone Wars and that episode in particular, what Qui-Gon says is contradictory. Because by that logic, Anakin never should have been a Force Ghost either.

@AnthonyVonGeek - look, I don’t know how to tell you this but anything in animation, books, videos games, is only cannon till they want to do something that contradicts it in live action.
I don’t agree with it but that’s just how it’ll be

This show was everything I ever wanted for a Kenobi/Vader show.

Thank you, Disney.

@kylo0607 - That line was chilling. Gave more context to Obi-Wan's description of Vader in A New Hope.

I feel like Obi Wan ended up in the same place he was at the start of the series. He was in hiding on Tatooine, keeping distance from Luke, and didn’t do much Jedi stuff. The end of the series, he’s back to hiding on Tatooine, keeping distance from Luke, and probably not doing much Jedi stuff. Maybe the next season will focus on him and Qui-Gon, but idk if this entire thing was necessary. It was a fun little side adventure, but there could’ve been more of a character study of Obi Wan dealing with the fallout of Anakin but it was alright. Mandalorian is still my favorite series

Brought to mind Michael Keaton’s Morbius credits encounter. Clearly filmed separately n spliced together, reaction/interaction’s all off, Neeson’s talking to no one. Very surreal n hokey
