Will OBI-WAN KENOBI Get A Season 2? Ewan McGregor And Kathleen Kennedy Keen To Make It Happen

We're less than 24 hours away from Obi-Wan Kenobi's premiere, but could a season 2 happen? In a new interview, both Ewan McGregor and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy make their interest known...

Obi-Wan Kenobi has been billed as a limited series, but will this really be the final time Ewan McGregor plays the iconic Jedi Master? The actor spent upwards of a decade being asked about the possibility of reprising the role, but there are definitely other stories to be told on either side of this one (which takes place right between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope).

EW (via SFFGazette.com) recently caught up with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, director Deborah Chow, writer Joby Harold, and McGregor to ask about Obi-Wan's future.

While Chow and Harold made it clear that this show is meant to deliver a beginning, middle, and end as a single, cohesive tale, Kennedy left the door open to future Obi-Wan stories. "It’s certainly something we talk about," she said of future seasons. "Mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time."

"So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d have to really answer the question why?"

That sounds like the right approach, but McGregor was also quick to express interest in returning (again). "It was made as a one-off limited series. And in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between III and IV and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan in A New Hope. Would I like to make another one? Yeah, I would like to make another one."

There's a relatively limited amount of time between Episode III and IV, so Lucasfilm would without a doubt need to find a compelling, worthy story if they intend to bring McGregor back. Expanding on Maul's arrival on Tatooine (as seen in Star Wars Rebels) is one possibility, though we're sure "Ben" might have been forced to leave the planet for another adventure or two at some point.

Would you like to see more Obi-Wan Kenobi after the upcoming limited series? The first two episodes will arrive on Disney+ this Friday, May 27.
