Andor has understandably been praised as one of the best Star Wars stories ever told on screen. However, we were first introduced to Cassian in 2016's Rogue One, a movie that showed us a very different side to this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

While that blockbuster went through some major changes during reshoots, it was originally written by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, and it turns out they had their own idea for small screen spin-off. Disney+ wasn't a thing back then, though there had been rumblings for some time that Lucasfilm might have plans for the franchise on TV.

Following Andor's edge-of-your-seat finale, Whitta took to social media to reveal that he and Weitz put their heads together to pitch a series to Lucasfilm that was going to be set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens

In that, we'd have seen the victorious Rebel Alliance putting together a Mossad-style stream to track down Imperial war criminals. It doesn't sound like this idea was ever brought in front of studio executives, but it's a really cool concept that definitely would have complimented Rogue One.

"Years ago my Rogue One co-writer Chris Weitz and I had a cool idea for a TV show about a Mossad-style Rebel team hunting down Imperial war criminals who fled and disappeared after the fall of the Empire," Whitta says. "Could have been a cool bookend to R1. We never did anything with it though."

We've seen in The Mandalorian that the Empire didn't just roll over in the wake of the Emperor and Darth Vader's respective demises, so it would make sense for Rebels to track down those who remained loyal to them. The Jon Favreau/Dave Filoni slate of TV shows are doing a great job of exploring the fallout from that time, though, so the concept may be redundant now.

There's nothing to suggest this series will now become a reality, but the response from fans online has definitely been positive. With Andor proving such a hit - without a single Jedi or Sith in sight - perhaps Lucasfilm will be open to taking more risks with the franchise moving forward? We'll see!

Mossad ? So the main characters would have been the bad guys ?

@OrgasmicPotatoe - the main characters in A New Hope weren't?

@bkmeijer1 - The empire aren't the main characters of ANH.

@dagenspear - but the rebels are, and an insurgency blowing up government run facility (killing millions of employees) isn't good either.

The gif is seperate. I just used it to show it all depends on perspective.

@bkmeijer1 -

There's no such thing as perspective on morality. There is and there isn't. In the case of the rebels, they attacked the death star in a state of defense when the death star was going to destroy them. The death star blew up a planet with, as far as I remember being said, no military defense for the sake of making a show of themselves.

You can discuss the morality of their actions and also it not be on the same level as the empire.

@dagenspear - oh yeah, it's not comparable. But neither is right.

And then there's also the old man roping an ignorant boy into a forbidden religion. Doesn't sound right to me either lol

That sounds cool and much less boring than Andor.

Why? Just do 1 on Poe, Fin, Kylo, or Rey and just pay each star 1 - 2 million per episode. These past characters who's mission always involves the empire is getting repetitive. Like how many times are you going to use the same antagonist?

Aren't there those water people from the Prequels that Jar Jar Binks united? Do 1 on that and make it a budget Avatar/Aquaman/Namor rip off. These star wars writers have no creativity at all, they all just want to stack new characters on top of lucas's world or trying their best to fill in the gaps. Lucas ended his run back in the past saga. its getting really repetitive and uninteresting if they don't do something new. this is probably why Andor is doing so poorly compared to other shows this quarter.

@mastakilla39 - Why would anyone want to watch something about Kylo?

@mastakilla39 - Kylo isn't a character like Obi is and he's not even generally cool to see like Boba was, at a time.

@dagenspear - kylo is the best character if not fan favorite from the new trilogy. Boba fett was always a joke since the OT, only got popular due to his cool design and that rare toy created its own legacy outside of canon.

Obi wan only got popular from the prequel trilogy because of Ewan Mcgregor's performance. Everything before it was crap becuz Alec Mcginus phoned in his performance as he hated the role in the OT. Thats why the meme of him sitting down as a ghost is so popular. Its not hard for EM to shine in the prequels when everything else was shit but obi-wan has always been an uninteresting character because nothing interesting story about him happens until the OT starts and ends.

All the new characters I listed will have a better origin and sequel if progressed because there's more you can add. With obi-wan and bobba fett you can only fill in the gap with fan fiction now.

@mastakilla39 - Kylo has no real motive, origin or character goal to speak of. He's basically a black hole of writing creativity disguised as a character.

Alec Guiness was neither a real main character nor even close to the main character, but he still had writing that actually built his character in the movies he was in. Kylo has no such exscuse, but simultaneously not much real character building. Everything you could add to Kylo would be to basically write the whole character, because his movies barely gave any effort to it.
