AMERICAN GODS Taps Kahyun Kim To Replace Gillian Anderson As Media; Casts Mr. Town & Sam Black Crow
Ever since Gillian Anderson departed American Gods, the search has been on for someone to play the role of New Media, and now the show has found an actor to do just that, while adding two new cast members.
After Bryan Fuller and Michael Green departed Starz’s American Gods following disputes over budget and other issues, the network worked hard to find a replacement. However, they soon faced more complications when Gillian Anderson left the show and her role as the deity Media.
While the series eventually recruited Jesse Alexander to fill the role of showrunner, working closely with American Gods' creator Neil Gaiman, they still needed a replacement for Anderson.
Now, according to a new report from Deadline, Starz has finally found someone to play New Media in the form of Kahyun Kim. Like Anderson’s deity, Kim’s New Media will have the grand status of being the goddess of global content.
Along with this casting announcement, Starz has also found actors to portray two new characters on the show. The first is Dean Winters, who will be fulfilling the role of Mr. Town, who is tasked by Mr. World to discover more information on Mr. Wednesday’s plan.
Finally, there is the character of Sam Black Crow, who will be brought to life by Devery Jacobs. Sam Black Crow is described as being a college student “who claims to believe in so much,” yet is in fact “spiritually cynical.”
The second season of American Gods began production in April, so it will likely be a while before we see these three actors in character, especially since the series won’t return until next year.
