It's been a while since we had any updates on this one, but the first footage from The CW's Naomi debuted during DC FanDome last night, and the brief teaser featured a blink-and-you'll-miss-it glimpse of Superman!
The clip begins with the titular teen (Kaci Walfall) in class preparing for a debate when a text from her friend alerts her to some sort of nearby "stunt" involving the Man of Steel. Naomi grabs her skateboard and rushes to catch a glimpse of her hero, but begins to feel woozy and drops to the ground as Supes jets past overhead.
We're not sure if Superman will actually put in a proper appearance in the show, but if he does, we assume he'll be played by Tyler Hoechlin.
Ava DuVernay teamed with Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship to write and exec produce the project, which is based on the 2019 teen superhero tale of the same name from writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and artist Jamal Campbell.
The comic follows Naomi McDuffie, a teenage superhero from an alternate Earth with energy-based powers who discovers that she was sent to the Prime Universe to be preserved from Zumbado, the destructive conqueror of her home planet. The show is expected to focus on "a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes."
Naomi also stars Alexander Wraith (Orange Is the New Black, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Cranston Johnson (Filthy Rich, P-Valley) and newcomer Camila Moreno. Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes are also on board as producers. No premiere date has been announced, but the show is expected to hit our screens in 2022.
