It was recently announced that the CW had picked up the pilot episode for a live-action Archie TV series, Riverdale, and now Deadline reports that two of the most beloved characters have been cast: Jughead Jones and Betty Cooper.

According to the site, Former Disney Channel star Cole Sprouse will play Jughead (described as "a heartthrob with a philosophical bent and former best friend of Archie Andrews”), and Surviving Jack actress Lili Reinhart will portray Betty Cooper (“sweet, studious, eager-to-please and wholesome, with a huge crush on her longtime best friend, Archie").

Riverdale will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions. Expect casting announcements for main characters Archie and Veronics soon.

Jughead's a 'hearthrob'??????!!!?
I just bought the first three new "Jughead" series' issues last week and laughed my head way off, and not because they totally changed the classic character traits ....'cause it didn't. If Jughead doesn't have a long 'spindle-snoot' or has his eyes usually barely open like Napoleon Dynamite (who coulda been a great place ta start in finding a good onscreen Jughead) or doesn't wear that iconic crown or shirt with an "S" on it...then it's gonna suck fer real fans!

After reading the recent comic reboot, I'm all aboard for this... especially if Jughead is breaking the fourth wall.

Good, CW should stick to the shit comics and take their grabby tentacles of the good ones. Everything they touch turns to shit.

I doubt I'll be watching this show as I have no interest in Teen dramas. I mean even if it becomes Breaking Bad popular I doubt I would still. Heck I haven't even watched that show either. I've never read any of the comic books but I'm aware of what Archie is through pop culture (Simpsons, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Friends) and I've seen that Sugar music video and not to mention I watched that weird cartoon from the late 90's or early 2000's where it was all about ghost, zombies & aliens etc. But heck you never know, maybe this will be one of those rare opportunities. Also I might get a lot more interested if the Punisher or the Predator appeared on the show.

Archie on CW TV? Hopefully this means we'll get the obligatory Archie/Flash and Archie/Arrow crossover shows every year!
Really looking forward to those!

And since when was Jughead a hearthrob? I thought that was Reggie? And what about Moose?
Not that I know anything about the source material.

The casting looks okay. But describing Jughead as a "hearthrob" has me thinking this'll have some unnecessary changes.

Well hopefully they base it on the reboot cuz that's been pretty great so far
