When asked about whether he'd consider playing Venom again he told MTV, "Well, I died in the movie. Once you die, It’s hard to go ‘No, I’m not dead’."

Despite the fact that Grace seems to be counting himself out of returning to the Spider-Man franchise any time soon, he said he is excited to see what the movies new director does with the characters.

"I know Marc Webb, who’s the new director and a phenomenal director. So, it’s in good hands. And I’m sure he’ll do some good stuff with it."

I like him as an actor, but really, he shouldn't come back at all for the spin off, if it even happens that is.

I'm glad he's not coming back as Venom - he's not a bad actor, he was just a horrible choice to play Eddie Brock!

Guys, check out my X-FACTOR INVESTIGATIONS Fan Cast under "Fan Fic"!!! :)

He's out. I don't think we need a reboot, it's too soon. Just continue on with the story; they've already set thinkgs up for Lizard. Replace McGuire, not a big deal.

topher did a good job, it's just that he did NOT fit the bill as eddie brock/venom. the ball was dropped in casting, not necessarily by topher himself. he should stick to romantic comedies and that stuff though lolz

TOPHER is a FINE actor, in ROMANTIC COMEDIES,
but..SORRY no more CBM'S for him!

Ya, he's not a bad actor but was a ridiculous choice for Brock physically and personality-wise. But seriously, the part was written so lame that anyone would have suffered in the role. At least introduce him in part 2 for some character development. One of the best villains ever, the Lethal Enforcer, and they butchered him. Such a shame.

he comes off as a real dick in this.. just me? And i hated him in spidey 3.. not because of his acting, he jsut wasnt eddie brock to me, the guy in the first movie, flash should have been the guy to be brock, someone with that build

I agree, I didn't think he was bad at all as THAT version of Venom, it just wasn't the version comic fans wanted.

Topher's Venom wasn't given enough time to develop. Had Eddie Brock played a bigger role in "Spider-Man 3", like Harvey Dent in "The Dark Knight", the minimal Venom wouldn't have felt so empty. If you think about it, Two-Face (Eckhart's) and Venom were in the films about the same amount of time, the difference was that Dent/Two-Face was developed more.

Ror: Agreed. I've said this a few other times, and I'll say it again. Topher worked in SM 3 because they made Eddie much more of a "What if Peter abused his power" version of Spidey, a dark mirror image. In that context, I thought Topher did a great job, because there was an obvious parallel between his Eddie and Tobey's Peter, which was what they were going for, instead of some 'roided out meat-head Brock, that most fans wanted.

Considering this also addresses the reboot, I thought I'd give my fan-cast:

Jason Smith as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Julianna Guill as Gwen Stacy
Elena Satine as Mary Jane Watson
Matt Vogel as Eddie Brock (later Venom)
Stephen Lang as J. Jonah Jameson
Albert Finney as Uncle Ben
Diora Baird as Felicia Hardy (later Black Cat)
Helen Mirren as Aunt May

That's it for now. I'm thinking about what villains to use.

Personally, it wasnt his appearence that bothered me - it was the fact that even as a seperate version of Venom from the comic books, the character in the movie was just badly written and too rushed to give Grace the chance to do anything decent in the role!

Still think he should have been the original pick for Spidey!!!

His comic timing is perfect for Spidey's quips...oh, well.

My problem with SM3 wasn't the actors, but the miserable story. I actually liked Topher despite him lacking the build of Eddie Brock. Seems like they wanted to combine aspects of Carnage with Venom, and I think he'd have been better as Cletus Kasady myself (though still not the best choice in all hollywood obviously). I am a huge fan of 'That 70's Show' so all the actors on that show instantly get a free pass to prove themselves on film with me. I agree with Talontd, he'd have been GREAT as Spidey himself, but he didn't do bad as Venom. We can't blame the actor for what the story does to a character.

He sucked as Eddie and the way Venom was portrayed in the film sucked. If they would have just stuck with Sandman then maybe it would have been as good as the second one.

It's funny because he'd really be more appropiate for the reboot than where he was in the original movies.

yeah raimi (or whoever) just did NOT get what venom is about. he's not a villain. he believes in justice and repeatedly protects "innocents" in the comics. although peter parker is a good guy, the truth is that he sort of cheats to get the best photos of spidey and superhero fights. brock loses everything because he didn't have that advantage, and so he goes after spidey/petey when he realizes what's been going on. he's out for justice and doesn't hurt others who get in his way. the character in the movie is not the venom of the comics, who is more than some roided out baddy, trust me. very complex and multidimensional character, and raimi missed it because he fights with every one of his superiors.

just out of curiousity, what is it some of you see in topher that makes him a good, great, perfect or even an ok eddie brock/venom? He doesnt have the build, he's not intimidating on any level, just slimey and was given a generic role. He isn't a particularly good actor, atleast not in the shadow of tobey. These are all opinions but considering he doesnt at all look the part and even tho somehow the symbiote bulks him up, I was just wondering what you guys saw that made him eddie.

He never should have been picked to play Eddie Brock. He should have been picked to play Electro. But they ruined spidey for me. If the new movie follows the ultimate storyline, sad to say I probably won't see it. And thats saying a lot cause spidey was always my favorate superhero of all time and they just ruined the movies and ruined the story for me cause no one seems to want to take these movies seriously. All they care about is money. They don't understand how important these stories and charactors are to us. They crank out any hack piece of trash just to sell crappy merchandise and If the people don't like it they'll just reboot the story and take it in another crap direction instead of following the story as it should go. They don't care and thats the problem. I'm done with this before I go off on a huge tirade and end up typing for days on how they should make these movies. It can drive a guy nuts!!! I Don't Know........
