VENOM Has Now Passed $700M At The Worldwide Box Office, Propelling Sony To $2B+ Internationally

There doesn't seem to be any stopping Sony's critically panned Venom movie, which has now crossed the $700 million mark at the global box office thanks to a very impressive showing in China. Check it out.

Most of us scoffed at Sony's plans for a Spider-Man-less Venom movie back when it was announced, and while the finished product did prove to be highly divisive, there's no arguing with the success it's enjoyed.

After Venom's record-breaking opening in China last week we estimated that it could well finish its theatrical run with a $700m-$750m global cume, and now Deadline reports that it has already passed the $700M mark, propelling Sony Pictures past $2 billion at the international box office for 2018 in the process.

These latest figures mean that the Ruben Fleischer-directed antihero flick will most likely amass at least $800 million before it's done, which just goes to show that you really never know what's going to resonant with general audiences.

Tell us, what do you make of Venom's surprising BO performance? Drop us a comment down below.

@Snowbirdd - Why bring up MCU fanatics right now? Can you not live without this flame war that you most likely claim to despise?

@Equivocal - I had a good time at the movie. It is mainly the fresh feel of Eddie and Venom banter that made the movie interesting. The one city chase scene was well done. Over all it was worth seeing but I did not feel like I had to go back to see it again.

Sony making good money on minimal effort and a bad film was bad

Sony making VERY good money on minimal effort and a bad film is infinitely worse

This is what happened the last time Sony had this much confidence

Remember when Iron Man 3 (and future discussions about The Avengers) made this much and people were frustrated over it, calling the general audience brainwashed? That money wasn't indicative of quality? That a movie being "fun" wasn't indicative of quality and that the Mouse was mind-controlling the general audience by making their movies fun?

Those same people are now arguing all the exact opposite things.

Feel old yet?
