A new Mortal Kombat Legends animated movie was announced during Warner Bros. Entertainment's San Diego Comic-Con panel over the weekend (via Toonado.com), and this latest R-rated adventure will focus on one of the original MK arcade game's most popular characters, Hollywood icon, martial arts specialist, Jean-Claude Van Damme parody, and all-round egomaniac, Johnny Cage.

Set in the '80s, the movie will serve as a prequel to the first game, as we uncover how Cage went from a bullied teenager to a martial arts expert, and ultimately found himself getting mixed up with the mystical realm known as Outworld and the titular tournament.

Several other familiar faces will feature, including fellow Mortal Kombat OG, Raiden. The movie also features Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey as herself.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match will be available on October 17 to purchase Digitally from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu and more. 4K Ultra HDTM and Blu-ray will also be available online and in-store at major retailers. Pre-orders start July 22.

Check out the hilarious - and very bloody - red band trailer below, along with the Blu-ray cover art.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match, the fourth animated film in the franchise, sees Johnny Cage in 1980s Hollywood on a mission to become a famous actor. However, his world soon changes when his co-star disappears, and he embarks on a journey filled with danger and deceit.

Featuring a terrific voice cast, the film stars Joel McHale (Animal Control, Community) as Johnny Cage and Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing, Red Oaks) as Herself. Also starring in the movie is Gilbert Gottfried (Aladdin, Royal Crackers) as David Doubldy, Dusan Brown (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) as Chuck Golden, Grey DeLisle (Teen Titans Go!) as Kia, Robin Atkin Downes (Luck, DC Showcase: Constantine – The House of Mystery) as Shinnok, Zehra Fazal (Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe) as Jataaka, Kelly Hu (Arrow, X2: X-Men United) as Ashrah, Matt Yang King (Elemental) as Concierge, Phil LaMarr (Futurama) as Brian Van Jones, Matthew Mercer (Resident Evil: Death Island) as Director/Bully, Dave B. Mitchell (Call of Duty franchise) as Raiden and Armen Taylor (Justice Society: World War II) as Master Boyd.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match is directed by Ethan Spaulding (Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms) from a script by Jeremy Adams (Justice League: Warworld), who also penned the screenplays for the series’ first three films, and supervising producer is Rick Morales (Mortal Kombat Legends franchise, Bablyon 5: The Return Home).

Oh, so he's Johnny Lawrence.

Also it's weird they keep the name legends when it's so disconnected. Sure, the first two were directly connected. But then snow blind goes off on a wild tangent. And now this raises so many questions about it's continuity.

Unless it's all in Canon, in which case that makes this and the first two hilarious since an apocalypse is on the horizon.

The first MK Legends was pretty good, the second was ok and the third was “meh” but this one looks like a skip for me. 🤷‍♂️

Should’ve just made Kung Fury his origin story.

Maybe it's just me, but the shading in that trailer seemed REALLY off and distracting. Like, I get the whole 80's color palette, but the green shading on his face and other weird color choices which seem to come from no identifiable light source (i.e. a green light or reflecting off a green surface) just seems like odd choices to me. Then again, it's just a trailer and it goes by pretty fast, but I did notice it throughout the trailer which makes me think the whole movie is like that.

They should release more clips featuring his fights to get viewers hyped about this.

And wasn't expecting that Cage was being voiced by Joel McHale. I got to finish Animal Control but his other recent work as Sylvester Pemberton aka Starman in the abrupted (and unfairly as hell) canceled Stargirl was a great highlight too. So since it's him I'll consider checking this out.
