New Line's recent Mortal Kombat reboot didn't exactly achieve a flawless victory at the box office, but it performed well enough - especially as one of the first major Covid-era releases with a day-and-date streaming debut - to warrant a sequel, and producer Todd Garner recently took to Twitter to confirm that production is set to get underway in Australia next month.

None other than Karl Urban (The Boys, The Lord of the Rings movies) is set to play Johnny Cage, with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actress Tati Gabrielle on board as Jade.

Now, THR reports that Gabrielle's Sabrina co-star Adeline Rudolph has been added to the cast as a character who was introduced in the second game, the fan-wielding warrior known as Kitana.

The short-lived Netflix show marked Rudolph's screen debut, but the Hong Kong-born model-turned-actress has also appeared in the CW’s Riverdale and Netflix’s Resident Evil series. She is currently filming the female lead in Millennium’s Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

The first movie's surviving characters will return, but we will also see the debut of some new heroes and villains from the long-running video game series, including Baraka, Shao Khan, Sindel, Quan Chi and Kitana.

She's stunning

The Director must have really liked Sabrina.

Really hope the sequel focus's more on Liu Kang

@SimplyAz - If they recast, the actor was pretty bad...well, all were, except the guy playing Kano, and obviously Sanada, who btw, is even coming back?

The first was ABSOLUTE GARBAGE and they director is completely my back. Writers too I believe.

This franchise needs a Leigh Whannell type. Meanwhile the new Street Fighter film has the talented Philippou Brothers at the helm. Major W

First one had its moments, but it wasn't great. They need to ditch that charisma vacuum Lewis Tan.

The first was visually nice but the story was disappointing, except the Sub-Zero vs Scorpion stuff that I enjoyed. Plus it got old seeing the armadillo guy constantly have to be saved by someone in every fight. Hopefully part 2 is step in a better more entertaining direction. 🤞

Considering Mileena was black and not asian, shouldnt Kitana...also be black and not asian?

Anyway, seems like the entire budget went to Karl Urban.

This franchise has the opportunity to be something special. The first film was OK but they need to improve their casting and story telling.

For the life of me....I will never understand why Cole Young became a character in the film. You had Liu Kang...but nooooooo....Smh

I don't have the hatred for Lewis Tan that so many others seem to have, but I do agree his character was BY FAR the weakest aspect of the first movie.

Hopefully they'll course correct in the second one. I actually did really enjoy a lot of the first one, despite them pretty much revolving it around the worst character (who of course isn't even from the games).

Please kill Cole off in a beginning fatality, they would win every MK fan over in the first 10 mins

I was hoping they’d stick with Mileena being a clone of Kitana so we can get thicc Kitana 😢
