VIDEO GAMES: Keith David Will Voice SPAWN In MORTAL KOMBAT 11

1992 was a year where alot of very memorable stuff happen when it comes to nostalgia: Batman: The Animated Series debuted onto television and makes a massive impact to cartoons, Jay Leno becomes host of The Tonight Show after Johnny Carson, Bill Clinton won the 1992 Presidental election against George H.W. Bush, Slience of the Lambs won five Academy Awards, Cartoon Network begins broadcasting in the airwaves, Disney releases Aladdin onto theaters starring Robin Williams, The Death of Superman becomes a massive juggernaut for DC Comics and in the land of the rising sun where the two anime, Yu Yu Hakusho & Sailor Moon commenced broadcasting on Japanese airwaves. But it was also the year when two mediums in Comics & Fighting Video Games became a house hold name: the establishment of Image Comics formed by a clique of disgruntled artist & writers that worked for Marvel Comics for their own creations and Chicago based gaming company, Midway releases a phenomenon by Ed Boon & John Tobias known as Mortal Kombat. Now twenty-seven years later, both worlds will come together in the form of a crossover guest character that is Todd McFarlane's Spawn.

Last friday, NetherRealm Studios released a trailer featuring the soul taking sorcerer, Shang Tsung, voiced by Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa who is reprising his role from the 1995 film, in action as the game's first character to be released as its first post game downloadable content through its first Kombat Pack. By the end of the trailer, Shang Tsung himself is about to be joined with five other fighters which three were announced namedropped and two were announced as unrevealed with a certain chainsaw sound on spattered in blood. (Ash Williams anyone?) The three fighters announced for the first Kombat Pack are the Native American Shaman of the Matoka tribe, Nightwolf, the former Queen of Edenia and mother of Princess turned Kahn of Outworld Kitana, Sindel and the first guest character of Mortal Kombat 11 himself from Image Comics, everybody's favorite guntoting Hellspawn with chains, Spawn. Too make matters more awesome, Spawn will be voiced by none other the very man who voiced him in the Emmy award winning series from HBO, Keith David.

Yes, the very man who voiced Spawn in the HBO animated series is returing to the role for the first time since 1999 from the show's conclusion twenty years ago which was Konfirmed by press released from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment & NetherRealm Studios to coincide with the release of the Shang Tsung trailer, not much as been shared about when Spawn is going to be released, but does provide backstory on the character himself and his creator.

"Todd McFarlane’s Spawn is one of the world’s best-selling and longest-running monthly comic books, with hundreds of millions of copies sold worldwide in more than 120 countries and 15 different languages. The Spawn comic book tells the story of Al Simmons, an elite government assassin who was betrayed and killed by the CIA. Instead of dying, he sells his soul to Hell for a second chance at life, and becomes Spawn, an unstoppable soldier fighting the underworld.

"Spawn is voiced by Keith David, the original voice actor from ‘Todd McFarlane’s Spawn,’ the Emmy award-winning HBO animated series."

This comes with great news for fans of the character and Mortal Kombat in general. McFarlane granted permission to NetherRealm to have Spawn as a guest character in their titles, some could hope he would've appeared in Mortal Kombat X or the DC Comics fighter, Injustice 2 where he would've fought Hellboy or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in an unjust world. But given the fact Mortal Kombat is known for their blood, gore and violence, Spawn feels now right at home in Mortal Kombat 11. A release date for spawn is not known yet, but he will "Get over here" sometime this year.

Mortal Kombat 11 is now in stores everywhere

Love Spawn but should put him in an Injustice game with other superheroes
Why not put in characters like

now they fit Mortal Kombat more than superheroes

@dracula - I wouldn't be surprised if we see Ash.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Hopefully one day he shows up, although I would choose Buffy over ash

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Seriously since the reboot of the games, they have had Freddy, Jason, Predator, Alien, Leather Face, might as well just do a game starring horror icons, throw in a few more, 80's monsters/slashers, some classics from the 30's to 40's, then put them against characters like Ash, Buffy, Van Helsing and others in a massive horror monster brawl type game

@dracula - That's a great idea.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Main character would probably be ash, he has probably had more comic book crossovers than any of them. As long as Buffy has a role, that's fine with me
