THE BATMAN Co-Writer Mattson Tomlin To Pen MEGA MAN Script For Capcom And Chernin

The studio behind War for the Planet of the Apes has a live-action Mega Man movie in development that seems to be finally waking up from hibernation in the wake of the Sonic movie's box office forecast.

THR has inconspicuously revealed that Mat Tomlin, co-writer on Matt Reeves' The Batman, has been hired to pen the script for Chernin Entertainment's live-action Mega Man movie.

Capcom first announced the movie back in 2018 with the directing duo of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Paranormal Activity 4) attached to helm the project. There's been no update on the film since.

However, with early tracking for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie pointing to a $40-$45M opening during the President's Day holiday weekend, don't be surprised if development on the Mega Man film suddenly starts to heat up.

Do you think the corner is finally starting to turn on video game movies? Let us know in the comment section below.

@lawndart - I do would be cool just don't make it look like Batman.

If Sonic is even good there's a leap of faith other people might look at games as another medium to make movies into. Sonic & MegaMan are not easy translation to being with.

Hell were getting a Monster Hunter movie that might be good but lets face it it's the team behind the Resident Evil movies a $50 million budget.

@Matador - The win/loss ratio for games to film has been slanted in the loss column for decades. I'm not saying there aren't some out there that wouldn't be profitable (how many RE movies are we at now?) but some translate much easier than others.

God of War, Turok, Halo, and even Metroid already have the bones of if not an already developed story. Others would require more creativity and Hollywood has been lacking that for some time.

@lawndart - For RE 6 I think.

And Gears of War would be cool too expensive but cool. Now that would be awesome if James Camron did that instead of Avatar.

Not sure about live-action, but would have loved a animated version, not too unlike Astro Boy.

Fun fact, Ariel Schulman is the brother of Nev Schulman, the host of Catfish on MTV
