Deadline reports that work seems to finally be moving ahead on a big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's hit video game franchise, Splinter Cell. According to the site, Warner Bros. had been in talks, but Paramount Pictures are now the frontrunner and look set to take on the project. This may not come as too much of a surprise as the studio are also currently hard at work on a few other Tom Clancy adaptations, including the Jack Ryan reboot from Thor director Kenneth Branagh. The studio has refused to comment, saying only that there is currently no deal in place. It may also come as a relief to fans to hear that Ubisoft plan on playing a very big role in how the video game adaptation is handled on the big screen.

I vote Matthew Fox for Sam Fisher. Can't think of anybody that looks like Sam Fisher and sounds like Michael Ironside.

Yeah this could be a good movie, seeing as it is a spy thriller, action game. However unlike the current crop of CBMs, game adaptations tend to go for weak writers and directors.

The problem with certain game adaptations is the association of the voice to the character. I feel sorry for anyone who tries to play the role of Solid Snake or Kratos.

george clooney??? george clooney plays george clooney playing a character in every one of his movies, he doesnt own a role like heath ledger did with the joker or johnny depp with jack sparrow, he doesnt get into the role & create a memorable character! people like him cuz his charm is bettr dan his acting, he'd ruin splinter cell!

ever see batman & robin????

Well, nothing to get very happy about, this movie is on the limbo for 5 years or more, there was even a teaser for the movie by paramount once, included on Chaos Theory extras. I'll only have high hopes when something official is confirmed, which I hope is soon.

I'd see this movie. I also would prefer a Metal Gear movie more than a Splinter Cell. Just imagine Raiden kicking butt on a big screen.

XmutantX,
Hitman was horrible. I tried so hard to like it, as I own every game made - but I couldn't. The very notion of a love interest for 47 is horrifying - we all know he's got his own M/Moneypenny looking after him. If they had Olga play HER instead, changed the story so it doesn't involve a hostage telling 47 where to go and why... I would be saying Hitman was a great film.

I'll reserve judgement on this. I haven't played a single Splinter Cell game before.
