Paramount Pictures has slated their upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie for a November 15, 2019 release date.
Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke) is directing with a script from Golan the Insatiable creators Patrick Casey and Josh Miller. Neil H. Moritz (Fast & Furious) is producing with Tim Miller (Deadpool) on-board as an executive producer.
A production start date remains unset, but expect filming to begin before the end of the calendar year, if not sooner. As for how they plan on bringing the classic hedgehog to life, Paramount will reportedly utilize a mix of live action and CGI to breathe life into Sonic and his colorful friends.
While Sonic the Hedgehog won't open against any other major release, it will still face competition from several holdovers, including MGM's untitled James Bond 25 and 20th Century Fox's Death on the Nile, which both open the week prior. Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman 2 will also have opened at the beginning of the month, so that should be a strong performer heading into the end of the year. Walt Disney Pictures' Frozen 2 is then set to open at the end of the month.
