SONIC THE HEDGEHOG First Trailer Delivers Plenty Of High Speed Thrills As He Races Into The Real World

The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog has arrived, and it puts the beloved video game character squarely in our world. The question is, is he the next Detective Pikachu or the stuff of nightmares?

As expected, the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog has raced online and, well, something tells us this is really going to get fans talking. Transporting the beloved video game character into the real world is definitely an interesting move, but it's clear that the VFX still need to be finished.

The humour seems to be on point, though, and Jim Carrey is clearly having fun as a very different take on Robotnik (make sure to stick around until the end of the trailer for a surprise).

The action also appears to be strong, as does the use to Sonic's speedster abilities on screen.

It's honestly hard to say which way this one will go, but Detective Pikachu reportedly breaks the video game movie curse so it may struggle to top that. According to the official synopsis, "Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski journeys to San Francisco to assist Sonic, an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who can run at incredible speeds, in his battle against Dr. Robotnik."

What are your thoughts on this first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog? Sound off down below.

@KyoShiRo330 - Neal Mcdonough should have played eggman, can be intimidating and funny

@LordCipher - Not all speedsters generate lightning when they run, Quicksilver being one case in point.

@LordCipher - Also Sonic was standing still while slowing time down, pretty sure only speedforce speedsters can do that, most actually move when they slow time down

@dracula - That scene is a [frick]ing masterpiece. Neal would've definitely been a better choice than "Jim Carrey playing himself but dressed as Eggman".

Man . James marsdens career would’ve turned out so much differently had he been given a real role in X-men.

Oh no. This looks bad. Jim Carrey might steal the movie by default.

People crave and enjoy great animation.

You could made an animated epic Sonic movie and I think it would do great. I loved the Sonic X as a kid.

I remember seeing someone say this on here so I'm going to repeat it.

"Detective Pickachu will break the video game curse. And then Sonic is going to come back and start it all over again"

Although I'll admit, I laughed in a so bad it's good way, and Jim carrey as classic robotnik at the end was....interesting.

Younger Targeted Audience than I expected it to be for. Best Bit was the “Stolen child in the Bag”. Hope the kids and parents like this one. Going to pass. But best of luck!
