AMAZON: CW Are Hunting For Their WONDER WOMAN; Show Compared To SMALLVILLE

Talking today at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, network president Mark Pedowitz has offered an update on the progress of Amazon, revealing that it will tell Diana's story in a similar way to how Smallville told Clark Kent's. He also offers some casting news...

"We’re waiting to see the script and are busy casting Diana," CW President Mark Pedowitz told journalists today when asked about how work on Amazon is progressing. While he didn't reveal who the network are currently considering for the role, he did shoot down any buzz that The Vampire Diaries' Phoebe Tonkin is set to play the iconic DC character: "We haven’t thought about her in terms of Wonder Woman." As for whether or not the series will share any DNA with the ill-fated pilot from David E. Kelley, Pedowitz was quick to also shoot down any talk of that too. "I have not seen David’s project [but] this is an origination story [like] Smallville]." Of course, that can either be taken as very good or very bad news. The first five seasons of Smallville made for great viewing, but it's hard to imagine that anyone wants to spend a decade waiting for whoever ends up in this role to suit up for all of about 10 seconds! Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Why would anyone be inspired by smallville for anything? Smallville defeated its own premise by season 4.

Thanks @NerdyGeek but that was posted weeks ago. It'll save those that haven't seen it the trouble of finding the article though.

Smallville should have ended 5 seasons before it did, hopefully this show won't be as drawn out and dragged down with filler.

Great, which means if its like smallville, we'll meet everyone she's ever going to fight before she even puts on the WW outfit. If it was a mini series that showed the background into Themyscira with the same type of producion like Spartacus, fine. But its going to be a bunch of teen drama.

Im not too worried about the movie, Superman Returns came out when Smallville aired, so they do know how to get stuff out on multiple platforms. I just wish this wasnt their first priority to get her on the small screen, instead of the big screen.

Chronicles female superhero’s life as a young Amazonian, before she becomes a warrior princess with super powers. Iris, comes from a remote, secluded country and until now has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield. Because of relentless brutality of her life at home, Iris looks at our world with absolute awe and astonishment. She’s delighted -and just as often horrified – by the aspects of everyday life that we take for granted: skyscrapers, traffic, ice cream. It’s all new and fascinating and sometimes slightly troubling – to her. Iris is completely unschooled in our world, our culture, our customs. And she’s completely inexperienced at interpersonal relationships. She has no social filter, does not suffer fools, and tends to do and say exactly what’s on her mind at all times. She’s bluntly, refreshingly honest. She can tell when you’re lying to her. And she doesn’t have time or patience for politics or tact because she’s too busy trying to experience everything our world has to offer. There are too many sights to see – and things to learn – and people to care for. Hers is a true, noble, and generous heart. And she will fight and die for the people she loves. Iris is a fierce warrior with the innocent heart of a romantic – and she will fight to the death to make the world safe for innocents and true romantics everywhere.

Oh and please find someone better than Palecki or w/e her name is and not one of those skinny, shit model wannabe actresses that usually headlines CW shows either.

A tall, pretty, unknown that actually looks like she eats and can kick some ass would be splendid, extra points if she's naturally raven haired and can be classified as beautiful(yeah, yeah I'm asking for the near impossible I know).

Arrow is pretty good but Smallville was crap. Would rather see her as Wonder Woman from the start or at least by the end of the first season

If its origin, then they wont start with superpowers. Gonna go for realism at first like they did with arrow. And that wont work for this character. They need to truly show the character.

Some of you blame "realism" for the lack of superpowers and watered down superhumans/aliens in shows like Smallville, Green Arrow, etc..

But the main reason this is done is because of budget constraints..
Supes17
Supes17 - 1/13/2013, 11:40 AM
I highly doubt the producers of Smallville were inspired by and using "Nolan realism" on the show lmao

Smallville just sucked. Plain and simple. They had a low budget. That's why Darkseid was a mist that possessed Lionel.. That's why Doomsday was some Dr.Jekyll/Mr Hyde/Hulk ripoff.. That's why Brainiac stayed in human form
NightForce
NightForce - 1/13/2013, 11:43 AM
So we won't see her as Wonder Woman until 2023? Sounds lame already. Can CW just leave superheroes alone?

I personally was a fan of Smallville, and I'm currently enjoying what they're doing with Arrow. If they did this show the right way, I'd definitely watch it. As long as they don't completely de-power her. Her powers aren't that complicated to pull off anyway. She has super-strength and she flies. They wouldn't have to start the series off with her truth lasso or invisible jet of course though

Now that Gossip Girl is over, they'll probably use Jessica Szohr from that show as Wonder Woman, since they know her already:

Smalville suffered from the wait. The wait defeated the show. They could have simply made a Superman show when they started the blur thing and cut out all the nonsense. I think it wasn't that it took 10 seasons to become Superman but that 2/3rds through he already was and they just started to stall. In hindsight it the first few seasons would make for a good show. And the last few seasons would be great for the start of another. A blur season 1 with Superman for the rest would have been great.

Now this concept worked with Superman because of the Superboy angle. Wonder Woman has no early days like that. If the CW made some kinda of Spartacus type show then I would give it the go ahead. If their plan is treat it like some destiny thing then no. Arrow is handling properly. The origin is great but the now is more important.

Batman would suffer the same thing as Smallville. The origin is nice but the now is important.

Why do they keep trying to do this who? Why can't they just get a movie done!!! I mean seriously there is no reason why it hasn't happened yet.

BTW everyone bitching about Smallville needs to google "Siegel Estate v. Time Warner‎"

THAT's why.

And the crap didn't even get resolved til a few days ago:

And Arrow is proof that a Batman TV show would've worked.

Anyone who watches that show sees it's essentially a Batman knockoff, with characters in the show that could've obviously been Alfred/Robin/Catwoman/Gordon/etc instead.

my main question is:

Will the show be set in Diana's world? or in our world?
