Tom Cruise's THE MUMMY Won't Eclipse WONDER WOMAN's Box Office Might This Weekend
WB's Wonder Woman is estimated for just a 50% drop in its second weekend of release in North America but that should be more than enough to outperform Universal & Tom Cruise's The Mummy.
These days, Tom Cruise is much more of an international box office draw than he is at home in the U.S. Case in point, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back earned 63.8% of its revenue from international markets. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation attributed 71% of its worldwide gross to foreign markets and Edge of Tomorrow was even higher at 73%.
Box office analysts initially predicted a $40 million opening weekend for The Mummy but those estimates have fallen off in the last few weeks and predictions are now hovering around $35 million.
With Wonder Woman predicted for roughly a 50% drop in its second weekend, that means it should gross about $50 million - more than enough to secure first place.
The Mummy is under embargo until mid-week so it's possible that $35 million estimate could rise or fall even further based on scores and word of mouth.
