WB's WONDER WOMAN Sequel And Growing Oscar Buzz Have Patty Jenkins Very Excited

"Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film," says director Patty Jenkins.

Will Wonder Woman become one of the few superhero films to win an Oscar? The cultural phenomenon has surprised fans, critics and box office analysts at every turn so there's absolutely no reason to rule out the possibility.  Speaking to the Toronto Sun, Jenkins addressed the film's chances.

"When you’re making a movie it’s completely all consuming; there are many things you don’t have time to think about. I certainly wasn’t thinking about the Oscars. It’s just not something you consider when you make these kinds of movies. I did the best that I could, but you kind of assume you’re not going to be considered for that kind of thing. But now, hearing that, I’m so flattered and stunned and super honored to be in the awards conversation."

Fox made the opening salvo in the Oscar race by being the first to send out screeners for Hugh Jackman's Logan but awards analysts believe the film has an outside chance at securing any major nominations and the only reason it's even being considered is because Jackman is reportedly hanging up his claws.

Currently,  Jenkins is hard at work on hammering out the script for Wonder Woman 2 with Geoff Johns and
Dave Callaham after signing a deal to make her the highest paid female director in Hollywood history.

"I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero. I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.

What do you hope to see in the Wonder Woman sequel?  There are a lot of years to cover between World War I and her next DCEU appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Wonder Woman 2 is currently slated to hit theaters on
December 13, 2019 but will likely hopping on an invisible jet and flying away from Star Wars: Episode IX (December 20, 2019) as fast as possible.
