WONDER WOMAN Scores A Producers Guild Of America Nomination As Oscar Buzz Ramps Up

The PGA is considered to be one of the most reliable Academy Awards precursors out there, and Wonder Woman's nomination has led to speculation that Patty Jenkins' film may be in line for some Oscar love..

The Producers Guild of America has announced its film and television nominees for the 29th annual PGA Awards, and Patty Jenkins' critically acclaimed Wonder Woman has been nominated for The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.

Because The PGA is generally considered to be a reliable gauge for which movies will receive Oscar noms (the PGA and the Academy have chosen the same best picture winner 75 percent of the time), many are taking this as a sign that Diana's first solo adventure could be a legitimate contender in the Best Picture race.

Academy voters are notoriously stuffy when it comes to comic book-based movies, however, so this might be wishful thinking.

Here's the full list of movies nominated for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award:

“The Big Sick”
Producers: Judd Apatow, Barry Mendel

“Call Me By Your Name”
Producers: Peter Spears, Luca Guadagnino, Emilie Georges, Marco Morabito

“Dunkirk”
Producers: Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan

“Get Out”
Producers: Sean McKittrick & Edward H. Hamm, Jr., Jason Blum, Jordan Peele

“I, Tonya”
Producers: Bryan Unkeless, Steven Rogers, Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley

“Lady Bird”
Producers: Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, Evelyn O’Neill

“Molly’s Game”
Producers: Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, Matt Jackson

“The Post”
Producers: Amy Pascal, Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger

“The Shape Of Water”
Producers: Guillermo del Toro, J. Miles Dale

“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"
Producers: Graham Broadbent & Pete Czernin, Martin McDonagh

“Wonder Woman”
Producers: Charles Roven & Richard Suckle, Zack Snyder & Deborah Snyder

@jj2112 - It was definitely a different kind of movie. I tell people all the time that it's more about putting you in the battle that being a traditional story with a 3 act structure. In short, I loved it for what it was, but I could see why people wouldn't.

@Origame - Just my opinion, but trying to make it a thriller didn't work for me. And there wasn't much of a battle... Just the Stuka bombing runs and the dogfight with magic gliding Spitfire.

@jj2112 - Trust me I get that. But to be fair, it wasn't much of what you'd call a battle in real life either.

@Origame - Yeah. Still, glad so many British soldiers got out alive, although the French weren't so lucky.

It has no chance at winning any Oscar for anything.

@Antithesis - Might get nominated for costume design, but that's it.

@scapegoatjones -

well
wonder woman was decent first half
second half
was mediocre at best !

Logan, even with that so-so 3rd act, IS better than the second half of wonderella

BUT

if a piece of shít like suicide squad won an oscar

why not this average pop corn flick ??

Yeah great comic book movie but this is a bit silly. It was standard popcorn fare, just done well. Nothing exceptional there.

But in all honesty it’s beyond me why anyone puts any stock in the Academy Awards or the Emmys. Pretentious garbage, just a club where they can all feel snobby together. Used to be decent but these days they just pick the snobbiest film possible. No way Shawshank, Forrest Gump or Braveheart would get far today.

lol.

If this mediocre to decent flick had a lead actor instead of actress no one would have given a F. Its clear their goal is to score some PR points instead of awarding quality films regardless of PC content. Cause Logan is an infinitely better film.

@Typhoon20 - its a good movie but you're opening up the flood gates now. Wonder Woman winning sends a clear message that the Academy and all of those other committees are even more questionable than we already thought.
