Fans that have seen Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman can agree that one of the best and most memorable moments of the film was when Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) began telling a young Diana the story of how the Amazons were created, and how Ares brought down the Gods of Olympus.
What made this particular scene stand out was the use of beautiful paintings that can be seen coming to life as Hippolyta recounted the story, similar to that of Jor-El's history lesson of Krypton from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.
Now, artist Houston Sharp, one of the many talented artists who worked on creating those magnificent paintings, has decided to share all the artwork featured in the scene, as well as those that didn't make the cut. The paintings showcase Zeus with the other gods on Mt. Olympus, the creation of the Amazons, humanity's betrayal, Ares killing the other gods, and the creation of Themyscira.
Here is what Sharp had to say about working on Wonder Woman:
I had the pleasure and honor of working with Patty Jenkins and her team to create the animated painting at the beginning of Wonder Woman. It was a huge undertaking, but I had a small team of super-talented artists to help finish it on time, and Patty & Co. were very supportive along the way.
Each panel was painted separately, and stitched together into one massive painting. We tried achieving a classical oil painting look, while working in a way that was easy for the animators to work with (which meant keeping everything on their own layers, painting behind figures, etc.). It took a lot of planning and coordination between multiple artists, but it was well worth the challenge.
